NEXT the Lions ran roughshod over Midwestern University by a lopsided score of 46-0. The Indians fumbled on their first play and four plays later Lloyd Corder hit paydirt from the 1-yard line. From then on East Texas took advantage of Midwestern mistakes and coasted to an easy win. Marvin Brown, George Riley, and Corder, ET's touchdown trio, marked up two TD's each to lead the attack. The Lions' defensive line, headed by Bruno Ashley, Bryant Clark, R. C. Moore, and John Owens, held the Indians to 61 yards on the ground and 39 yards passing. Highlight of the contest was Quarterback James Gray's scoring his first touchdown in two years of collegiate football. Playing the man-under in ETs T-formation, Gray had passed, pitched out and handed the ball off for counters during the past two seasons, but this was the first time he had ever carried the ball across the double stripe himself. This game marked the halfway point in the season. The Lions had won five tilts, with five to go. East Texas has pushed over the terrific total of 234 points, while allowing opponents a mere 34, all from Trinity University. At this point in the season the Lions led the nation in rushing defense and in points scored.
