EAST TEXAS wrapped up win number 15 by dropping Stephen F. Austin by the score of 54 to 7. Coach Catfish Smith could very likely have run up an even higher score, but he was content to let his touchdown trio watch from the sidelines much of the game while reserves did the scoring. • Even though Marvin Brown, George Riley and Lloyd Corder were in the game for only 12 running plays, Brown and Riley scored two touchdowns each and Corder kicked six extra points. The lads had scored a total of 192 points thus far in the season. The Lions scored the first two times they got the ball, with Brown crashing over from the one for the first and Riley going 26 yards on a pitch-out for the next. From then on the Lions were off to the races. ET chalked up 337 yards rushing against a L- minus 13 for Stephen F. The Lumberjacks did better in the air with Mitchell Torok passing for 217 yards to the Lions 138. Tommy McCormack, Lucky Parks, Red Williams and Carroll Holliday made one touchdown each to share honors with Brown and Riley. Rugged line play by the Lions, as usual, was the feature of the game. Stephen F. Austin made the only score against the Lions on the road for the entire season. At this point in the season scouts for the various bowls became interested in the Lions.
