Eastern New Mexico and Texas
A&M University-Commerce combined for an A&M-Commerce school
record of 132 points as the host Greyhounds posted a 76-56 win in
Blackwater Draw, New Mexico.
Eastern New Mexico (2-2)
quarterback J.J. Harp completed 46 of 65 passes for 602 yards and
five touchdowns. He had two receivers go over 100 yards as Jesse
Poku had 13 receptions for 178 yards and three touchdowns and Arvin
Jackson caught seven passes for 172 yards and a touchdown. The ENMU
passing attack featured 10-different Greyhounds, who had
receptions.
A&M-Commerce (0-4) got its
scoring on the ground, through the air and on a kickoff return.
Junior quarterback Adam Farkes completed 32 of 61 passes for a
school record 447 yards and four touchdowns in his first start as a
Lion. Sophomore Marcus Graham ran the ball 21 times for 97 yards
and a touchdown. The leading receiver for redshirt sophomore Blake
Patton, who caught five passes for 105 yards and two touchdowns.
Farkes found eight different receivers and ran the ball for two
touchdowns. Junior
defensive back Israel Hughes ran back a kick 91 yards late in the
second quarter for a touchdown. Senior safety Shea Rodriguez had a
team-high 11 tackles and junior safety Cory Whitfield had 10
tackles.
After the game was tied at 14
after the opening quarter, three-straight Eastern New Mexico
touchdowns put the Greyhounds up by a 35-14 margin with 4:19 left
in the second quarter. The Lions were able to get within seven,
42-35, early in the second half when Adam Jones caught a two-yard
touchdown pass from Farkes with 11:29 left in the third
quarter.
The 76 points by Eastern New
Mexico are just one shy of the record by an A&M-Commerce
opponent. Arkansas State scored 77 against the Lions in
1987.
The Lions will return home for
its next three games, starting with a 6 pm contest against the
University of Central Oklahoma.
