Lions' Volleyball Extends Winning Streak to Three

The Texas A&M University-Commerce volleyball team extended its winning streak to three straight with a 30-28, 25-22, 25-18 win over host Ouachita Baptist on Tuesday evening in Arkadelphia.

The A&M-Commerce (7-9) tandem of sophomore Rachel Robertson and senior Naomi Mays each had 14 kills to pace a Lions attack that out hit their opponents by a .286 to .174 margin. Setting the attack was freshman Jordan Neal, who had 39 assists and eight digs.  The Lions also benefited from eight service aces in the win and five team blocks in the victory.

Ouachita Baptist (12-4) had three players – Kristyn Howk, Megan Askew and Libby Merritt – with seven kills in the loss.

The Lions led for most of the opening set until OBU rallied to tie the set at 23. Both teams exchanged side outs until it was tied at 28. The Lions managed to get a block solo by Robertson and a service ace from Mays to win the opening set by a 30-28 margin.

Set two remained close as the two teams until sophomore Reagan Hayes came off the bench and served up a service ace to put the Lions ahead, 21-20. A&M-Commerce followed that up with back-to-back kills from Robertson for a three-point advantage. An additional kill by Robertson and a Tigers attack error closed out the second to put the Lions ahead by a two-set to none margin.

After three tie scores early in the third set, the Lions dominated the remainder of the set for the victory. Freshman Kayla Bond added five kills in the set to lead an A&M-Commerce attack for the victory.

Next, the Lions will return to the rigors of Lone Star Conference play on Saturday, Oct. 9 at 2 pm when they host Tarleton State at the A&M-Commerce Field House.
