Lions Outlast Angelo State in 102-98 Overtime Win

Senior Brian Singleton (pictured; photo by Grayson Graves) hit a 3 pointer and a jumper to put the Texas A&M University-Commerce in front in overtime en route to a 102-98 win over host Angelo State in San Angelo, Texas on Thursday night.

The win by A&M-Commerce snaps an eight-game losing skid in overtime games for the Lions and also raises the 2010-11 mark to 5-0. The last time that the Lions were 5-0 was during the national championship season of 1954-55.

Angelo State falls to 0-3 in the loss despite a 27 point, 11 rebound effort by Ridge McKeither. He was joined in double figures by LaMarshall Corbett, who scored a game-high 29 points on the strength of four 3 pointers. Plus, Steven Moore and Richard Thomas scored 13 and 12 points, respectively.

Lions' junior Desmond King led A&M-Commerce with 27 points and nine rebounds in the win. Singleton added 19 points – including nine of the 14 points for A&M-Commerce in the overtime – junior Brad Hambrick added 17, junior Austin Brown and senior Tyris Dowell scored 11 and 10 points, respectively.

The Rams' McKeither scored with .2 left in regulation to tie the game at 88 and force overtime. In the extra period, Corbett put Angelo State ahead to start the overtime by making one of two free throws for an 89-88 lead.

Next, Singleton sparked a 10-3 spurt with 2 three pointers and a jumper to put the Lions ahead by a 98-92 margin with 1:22 left in the extra period. The Rams would get as close as two, 100-98, with 17 seconds remaining. However, A&M-Commerce junior guard Stefon Carson cut to the hoop for a layup for the final margin.

A&M-Commerce will next put its undefeated mark on the line when they travel to Abilene Christian on Saturday, Dec. 4 at 4 p.m.
