Rachel Robertson each had nine kills for Texas
A&M University-Commerce in a 25-23, 25-18, 25-20 loss to Texas
Woman's on Tuesday evening at the A&M-Commerce Field
House.
Texas Woman's (4-9, 2-3 LSC)
used a balanced attack, including Laura McClung, who had a
match-high 11 kills and Sydney Veitenheimer and Kaytlin Harrison
each had 14 assists in the win. After recording six kills in the
opening set victory, the Pioneers had just two errors each in the
next two sets.
A&M-Commerce (4-9, 0-5 LSC)
senior Naomi Mays had four service aces and eight
kills in the loss for the Lions.
In the opening set, following a
16-16 tie, McClung had a kill and two service aces sparked a
four-point lead. However, the Lions came back to tie the set at 22
before the Pioneers scored three of the next four points for the
25-22 set victory.
During the second set, McClung and
Amanda Hall each had five kills for the Pioneers, who hit .400 to
build a two-set advantage.
Another strong offensive output in
the third set by the Pioneers clinched the match. TWU led following
a 1-1 tie to the end of the set. McClung and LyGene' Traylor
each had four kills and libero Kendra Coulson had nine of her
match-high 20 digs. The Pioneers' frontline also had four
blocks. Ousley had four kills on nine attempts for the Lions.
Next, A&M-Commerce will travel
this weekend with matches at Incarnate Word on Friday at 7 p.m. and
Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m. against Texas
A&M-International.
