COMMERCE, Texas -- Sixth-ranked West Texas A&M led from the opening serve until the final point Friday night at the Field House, handing A&M-Commerce a 25-12, 25-14, 25-16 defeat. The Lions drop to 9-3 overall and 2-2 in Lone Star Conference play while the Lady Buffs improved to 11-1 on the year and 2-0 in conference action.
The Lions dispersed their scoring output on the night, led by Breanne Snyder's six kills. Rachel Robertson added five for A&M-Commerce while Kayla Bond, Chelsee Hudson and Ezon Onditi each posted four kills offensively.
Jordan Neal dished out 26 assists with five digs while libero Michaela Spicer paced the Lion defensive unit, finishing with 21 digs. Morgan Moeller was second on the squad with seven digs to complement her three kills.
For the evening, West Texas hit .322 up front as Halie Harton and Kameryn Hayes each notched 14 kills for the Lady Buffs. A&M-Commerce was only able to manage a .041 attack percentage as West Texas A&M held advantages in nearly every statistical category, including digs (62 to 54), blocks (8.0 to 2.0) and service aces (3 to 1).
The Lady Buffs set the tone for the night early, winning the first set 25-12 before earning a 25-14 decision in the second. A&M-Commerce fought hard in the third, pulling to within three on a pair of occasions, the last of which came at 17-14, but West Texas A&M closed out the match on a 8-2 run to take the third 25-16. There were no ties and no lead changes for the duration of the match as well.
On the plus side for A&M-Commerce is it has little time to think about the loss as the Lions will be back on the court at 1 p.m. Saturday afternoon, hosting the Zias of Eastern New Mexico in the third match of a four-match home stand.
