LIONS PROVE TO BE TOO MUCH FOR DUSTDEVILS IN 3-0 ROAD SWEEP

LAREDO, Texas – The A&M-Commerce Lions left little doubt to the outcome, sweeping the Dustdevils to improve to 4-0 all-time versus International. The Lions wrap-up non-conference play with a 13-1 record with the lone blemish coming by way of a loss to Dallas Baptist.

The Lions used a mid-set run in all three sets to put distance between themselves and the Devils before earning to the sweep.

In her first start of the season, Ezon Onditi recorded nine kills and 15 digs. Onditi also accounted for 10 points. Amy Davault recorded another double-double, with 15 kills and 10 digs, giving her 17 on the season and eight in her last 10 games. Breanne Snyder and Kayla Bond recorded nine kills each. Michaela Spicer posted 12 digs and an ace. Jordan Neal posted 42 assists and has at least 40 in ten straight games.

The Lions started the match winning the first three points and never trailed in set one. The Dustdevils cut the lead to 6-5 but could not tie the set. A&M-Commerce extended the lead to 14-8 off a kill from Ciara Holmes then used a 4-2 run to make it 19-11. International scored four straight to make it 19-14 then cut it to four at 21-17 but the Lions held them off and scored five of the last eight to win 25-19 in set one.

In set two the Lions won five of the first six points with four coming with Davault serving. With the score 13-11 the Lions scored seven of the next eight to take an eight point lead. Back-to-back errors from the Dustdevils capped a three nothing run for the Lions to close out set 2, 25-15.

Set three saw the sides split the first 12 points, then International took the lead at 8-6 with four straight points. The Lions quickly got the lead and built a 12-9 advantage off an ace from Neal. A&M-Commerce then scored six of the next eight points to take an 18-11 lead. Kills from Bond and Snyder closed out the sweep for the Lions and the set three win at 25-15.

A&M-Commerce returns to the court on Friday, November 8 at 7 p.m. when they head to Kingsville to take on the Javelinas. The Lions return home for the final week of the regular season with Tarleton State on Tuesday, Eastern New Mexico on Friday and West Texas A&M on Saturday. All matches start at 7 p.m. and are at The Field House.
