LUBBOCK, Texas – A&M-Commerce Volleyball closed out the Heartland/LSC Crossover with two more wins and went undefeated at the tournament with two their two wins from Friday. Senior Kayla Bond set a new career high with 17 kills against UTPB in the second game of the day.

In the first game of the day the Lions were able to sweep the Rattlers of St. Mary's. The Lions scored three points in a row to take a 5-4 lead in the first set and did not look back. The Rattlers tried to get back even but never got close than two on six occasions. The Lions closed out the set, 25-22, on an ace from Kayla Bond.

The second set saw the Lions get a quick 9-4 lead and forced a St. Mary's timeout. However the Lion offense was not going to be slowed down. The Lions extended the lead to 10 twice and ended up winning the set by 11 at 25-14.

In set number three saw both teams trade early leads but the Lions took the lead for good after two ties at 12-11 off a kill from Amy Davault. The Rattlers got within one point four times before the Lions went on a five nothing run to end the set at 25-20 and seal the three set win.

Amy Davault led the Lions with 14 kills. Kayla Bond had nine kills, Ciara Holmes had eight and Breanne Snyder added seven to pace the Lion attack. Jordan Neal had 31 assists and had two aces.

In game number the Lions started off slow after the quick turnaround from the morning and gave up a 5-0 lead and had fight to get back into the set after seven nothing run to cut the Falcon lead to 23-19. Then the Lions score three to make it 23-22. The Lions then had chances to score but back-to-back errors gave the first set to UTPB, 25-22.

The second set saw the Lions get out to a 10-6 lead off back-to-back kills from Bond. The Lions then were able to keep their distance from the Falcons and cruised to a 25-17 victory in the second set.

A&M-Commerce started fast in the third set, scoring the first five points and 11 of the first 14. UTPB tried to make a comeback late with a four point run to the cut the in half at 23-19 but the Lions scored twice to close out the set with a kill and an ace from Bond.

The fourth set started as a back and forth as both teams tried to gain control of the set. The Lions tied the set at 13 off a Falcon error. The set was tied four more times before the Lions scored two in a row when the game was tied at 23 to seal the four set win.

The Lions back line registered 101 digs with four players recording more than 15 each including freshmen Li'I Etimani. Amy Davault registered a double-double with 12 kills and 19 digs but needed 53 attacks to get those 12 kills. Kayla Bond set a new career high with 17 kills. Breanne Snyder had 14 more kills to give 21 over the two-match day. Jordan Neal registered another 45+-assist game with 49 assists to go along with 17 digs. 

The Lions open up Lone Star Conference play when they travel to Denton, Texas to take on Texas Woman's University on Tuesday September 17. The Lions then return home to face Henderson State in rematch of a game earlier this season with the Lions sweeping the Reddies in Arkadelphia, Ark.
