CANYON, Texas – The Lions' winning streak was snapped but the unbeaten streak is still going at six games in a row after a physical 0-0 tie in double overtime against West Texas. A&M-Commerce is now 2-0-1 in their last three trips to Canyon.

Both sides were able to get shots away on the afternoon as the teams combined for 30 shots but only eight of those required a save by the goalkeepers.

The Lions were physical from the opening whistle and kept the Lady Buff attack in check early while only giving up one corner and a shot in the opening 25 minutes. The Lions had two chances in quick succession with Samantha Huston hitting the post off a free kick then Anitra Wright pushed a shot wide of the WT goal.

Caddie Annett then put two shots wide in the 29th and 30th minutes. In the 39th minute Brionna Minde played in a corner the Huston got on the end of but was turned away by, Yvette Bedoy, the WT goalkeeper.

West Texas had the last chance of the half with a shot from Kenya Lewis but Callie Ballard made the save to keep the game scoreless.

In the opening 25 minutes of the second the Lions were able to sustain some offense but were unable to get anything past Bedoy in net. Vicky Back had a shot blocked and a header go wide and Savannah Henderson had shot saved and one go high. Through the middle portion of the half there was a lot of back and forth play in the middle field with both teams trying to play the homerun ball over the top of the defense.

Coach Piper was pleased with the effort in the opening 25 minutes of the second half and thought we had good opportunities but could not score and after said after that our legs were gone and held on for the draw.

The Lady Buffs were able to control the last ten minutes after the Lions seemed to tire. Ballard made a save on a shot from Emily Krenek in the 83rd minute and the Lion defense blocked a shot from Berklee Watson in the 88th to force the game into overtime.

The Lions got the greater number of chances in the first overtime period but were unable to get a game winner before the 10 minutes were up. West Texas was able to control to second overtime period and had three chances in the closing minutes but Ballard came up with two more saves in the final two minutes to preserve the point and tie for the Lions.

Coach Piper continued, "It is always good to get four points on a tough road trip [at Eastern New Mexico and West Texas]."

A&M-Commerce returns home on Friday October 4th to face the Rambelles of Angelo State at 7 p.m. at Lion Soccer Field. This marks a stretch of four games in a row at home for the Lions.
