Lions Drop a Tough Three-Set Match to TexAnns

COMMERCE, TEXAS- The Lions Volleyball (3-16, 1-8 LSC) dropped a close match to Tarleton State (14-4, 6-3 LSC) on Friday in three sets (25-16, 29-27, 25-23). A&M-Commerce was out blocked by the TexAnns 13 to five and the Lions committed 10 more errors than Tarleton State.
 
The Lions took an early lead behind a pair of kills by Amy Davault, Taryn Driver and Delanee Clark making the score 9-8. The TexAnns would rattle off the next nine points to take a 16-9 lead en route to a 25-16 set one win.
 
The second set was an exciting back and forth set that featured nine ties and eight lead changes. The Lions fell behind early 8-2, however, Davault would score the next three points including two kills and a service ace to cut the TexAnns lead in half. Chassidy Hill was subbed into serve with A&M-Commerce trailing 24-23 Hill would make two clutch service and Davault had another big kill giving the Lions a 25-24 lead. Tarleton State would go on a three-point surge to end the second set.
 
A&M-Commerce jumped out to an early 7-2 lead behind the service of Davault. Jasmyne Brown would spark a 3-0 run for the TexAnns that tied the set up at 11-11. The Lions and TSU wouldcontinue to trade points for the remainder of the set. A Hannah Dyksta service ace and an error by Tarleton State would tie the set at 23, but the TexAnns would score the next two points to take the set and match.
 
Tarleton State was led offensively by Hailey Roberts who provided a double-double for the TexAnns with a match-high 16 kills and a team-high 12 digs. Defensively the TexAnns were led by Emily Medlin who provided six of the teams 13 blocks.
 
A&M-Commerce was led offensively by Davault who added 13 more kills giving her 303 for the season. Courtney Tate had a match-high 23 assists and Dystra provided a spark off the bench for the Lions picking up 10 assists. Defensively the Lions were led by Ashley Mireles who tallied 17 digs and Clark who had a team-high three blocks.
 
The Lions have another LSC match tomorrow when Angelo State comes to town at 2 p.m. Fans can purchase tickets at the door for $5, children 12 and under and students with a current college ID get free admission.
