A&M-Commerce Falls to TWU in Three Sets

DENTON, TEXAS –The A&M- Commerce( 4-18,2-9 LSC) volleyball team could not get back on track today against Texas Woman's(14-7, 8-3 LSC) dropping the match three games to none(25-19, 25-21, 25-19). The Pioneers had a hitting percentage of .297 compared to .191 for the Lions.
 
The first set started off back and forth it consisted of six ties and five lead changes. Amy Davault had back-to-back kills to make the score 16-13. Trailing 24-15 Davault sparked a 4-0 run to make the score 24-19 before dropping the set 25-19.
 
Lions fell behind 7-2 early in the second set. A Davault kill sparked a run where A&M-Commerce scored seven of the next eight points. The run was highlighted by a Sydney Reyes service ace and a Courtney Tate kill. A Taryn Driver and Delanee Clark block tied the match 8-8. The Pioneers would rattle off the next seven points en route to a 25-21 win.
 
A&M-Commerce scored six of the first eight points to start the third set. During that run Neka Nelson had back-to-back kills. A Veronika Baric kill would spark another run highlighted by a Davault kill that put the Lions ahead 10-5. With the Lions leading 11-8 the Pioneers would go on an 8-0 run that made the score 14-11 the Pioneers would not look back taking the set and match.
 
Elizabeth Pennington led the way offensively for TWU with 13 kills and a hitting percentage .375. Joey Redwine had a match-high 33 assists. Defensively for the Pioneers Morgan Wilson had a team-high 11 digs.
 
Davault led the way for the Lions with a team-high 13 kills and Baric added 10 .Tate led the team with 29 assists. Defensively Clark had match-high four blocks and Ashley Mireles had 19 digs.
 
A&M-Commerce returns home on Tuesday, October 21 against non-conference foe Southeastern Oklahoma State. Fans are encouraged to wear pink for breast cancer awareness.
