Lions Look to Keep LSC Tournament Hopes Alive

COMMERCE, TEXAS–The Lions volleyball team is looking to put an end to a three-match-losing skid when A&M-Commerce goes on the road for a pair of LSC matches against Midwestern State and Cameron. The two matches have huge LSC implications with the three teams battling it out for the final two spots in the Lone Star Conference tournament.
 
Midwestern State
 
Midwestern State goes into Friday's match really struggling as of late losing five matches in a row and eight of their last nine. During that run the Mustangs lost at Tarleton State, at Angelo State and at West Texas A&M during that stretch Midwestern State did not record a single set win.
 
The Mustangs are led by defensively by senior defensive specialist Casey Fletcher and sophomore middle blocker Sarah Garfield. Fletcher leads the LSC in digs per set averaging 5.28 and tallying 486 this season. Garfield has a team-high 92 blocks and is averaging 1.01 blocks per set. Sophomore setter Sarah Rosinke and junior outside hitter Nicole Marzik jump-start the Midwestern State offense. Rosinke has 738 assists and Marzik as added a team-high 203 kills this season and is averaging 2.45 per set.
 
The Lions won a thrilling 3-2 home victory over Midwestern State in the last meeting. Marzik led the way for the Mustangs with a 20 kill performance and Rosinke contributed 42 assists. For the Lions Amy Davault had a double-double with 20 kills and 18 digs. Courtney Tate added a match-high 63 assists in the match.
 
Cameron
 
Cameron has been reeling as of late losing three straight LSC matches. Those losses were at Angelo State, at Tarleton State and at Eastern New Mexico. The Aggies are currently seventh in the Lone Star Conference.
 
The Aggies are led by a trio of upperclassman junior setter Ingrid Boatman, junior outside hitter Kat Evans and senior middle blocker Rebecca Green. Evans has a team-high 210 kills and Green has added 200 kills averaging 2.50 per set. Assisting on those kills has been Boatman who is averaging 6.37 assists per set and has racked up 446.
 
In the last meeting the Lions dropped a heart-breaking five set match. Shannon DunLaney had a team-high 14 kills for the Aggies and Boatman contributed 23 assists. In the loss Davault added a double-double with a match-high 23 kills and 24 digs for the Lions.
 
Davault is only seven kills away from 1,000 career kills and is currently ranked third in the nation with 349. Tate leads the LSC in total assists with 836. Defensively A&M-Commerce has been led by Delanee Clark who is averaging .76 blocks per game and Ashley Mireles who has racked up 410 digs.
 
First serve is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. The Lions stay on the road on Saturday, October 25 with a match at Cameron. Game time will be at 2 p.m. A&M-Commerce has announced a change in the schedule. The match against Ouachita Baptist has been rescheduled from Saturday, November 1 to a date to be determined.
