Davault Records 1,000th Career Kill in Loss at MSU

Wichita Falls, Texas -- Amy Davault recorded her 1,000th career kill eclipsing the milestone in the second set of A&M-Commerce's 3-0 loss at Midwestern State Friday night.

"It is a really amazing feeling and an opportunity not many players have in their careers," Davault said. "I'm blessed to be able to achieve this milestone. This is something I wouldn't be able to do without my teammates because they made the passes and they put me positions to make plays.  I would not be able to achieve something like this without their support and hard work."

"I'm very excited for Amy to join the thousand kill club," Lions' head volleyball coach Craig Case said. "She joins a pretty elite list of girls who have done it here, most recently Rachel Robertson. Its been impressive this year more than most. The way she has been able to continue to put up be kill numbers despite other teams knowing she is the vocal point of our offense. Accomplishments like this are a testament to a player's durability, skill and perseverance. We're happy she reached 1,000 kills has a Lion, and she leaves a good legacy for future outside hitters."

Davault started her collegiate career at UT-Arlington where she played for two seasons. While playing for the Mavericks Davault collected 219 kills, 34 assists, 38 blocks and 493 digs. Davault transferred to A&M-Commerce for the 2013 season and in her career as a Lions she has racked up 784 kills, 42 assists, 714 digs and 67 blocks.

A&M-Commerce fell behind early 12-7 when Neka Nelson ignited a 3-0 run with back-to-back kills that closed the Lion Deficit to 12-11 in favor of Midwestern State. The Mustangs would run away with the first set scoring nine of the last 11 points to end the set.

Nelson helped the Lions get off to a hot start in the second set registering three of first four Lion points. The Mustangs would negate the run and take a 18-14 lead. Davault would answer with back-to-back kill making the score 18-16 in favor of Midwestern State, however, it would not be enough MSU would score eight of the next 10 points to close the set. Nelson had five of her 12 kills in the second set.

With the third set tied at nine the Mustangs would go on a 5-0 run led by back-to-back Hunter Porter kills making the score 13-9. The Lions went on a 2-0 run following a kill by Sydney Reyes and a Delanee Clark and Davault block that made the score 15-13. That would be as close as the Lions would get dropping the third set 25-19.

Midwestern State relied on Hunter Porter offensively tonight. Porter had 12 kills and two blocks for the Mustangs. Sarah Rosinke contributed with her match-high 29 assists and Madelyn Johnson added 18 digs and a serve receiving percentage of .947.

Nelson had a match-high 12 kills for the Lions and Courtney Tate led the team with 25 assists. Along with picking up her 1,000th career kill Davualt added a double-double with 10 kills and 14 digs. Defensively, Clark contributed three blocks and Ashley Mireles added a team-high 13 digs.

The loss drops A&M- Commerce to 4-20 overall and 2-10 in the Lone Star, while Midwestern State improves to 7-17 overall and 3-10 in conference action.
