Lions End Losing Skid Against Aggies

Lawton, Oklahoma – The A&M-Commerce (5-20, 3-10 LSC) volleyball team was able to overcome a shaky start and end the losing skid with a 3-1 victory over Cameron University (10-13, 3-11 LSC) Saturday afternoon.

" This is a really good win for us", Lions' head volleyball coach Craig Case said. "Chassidy had a great all around game for us coming up with plays that put Cameron in tough spots and some timely kills. Courtney did a great job running the offense and put us in great position to make plays."

The aggies got off to a fast start scoring eight of the first 10 points to start the first set. The Lions were able to get back into the set following two consecutive kills one by Amy Davault and one by Delanee Clark making the score 11-6 Cameron. Three consecutive Verioka Baric kills cut into Cameron's lead 20-14, however, the Aggies would hold off the A&M-Commerce 25-15. The Aggies had a hitting percentage of .355 in the first set compared to .051 for the Lions.

A Taryn Driver kill sparked a 5-0 run that was capped off by a Sydney Reyes service ace and gave the Lions an 8-5 lead in the second set. The Lions would go on another run scoring nine of 10 points. The run was highlighted by two Courtney Tate kills and two Davualt kills and gave A&M-Commerce a 17-13 lead. The Aggies would answer with a run of their own scoring five of six points and cut the Lion lead to 22-20. A block by Neka Nelson and Delanee Clark slammed the door on Cameron as the Lions won the second set 25-22.

Cameron scored eight of the first 10 points to start the third set. A&M-Commerce would answer scoring seven of eight points a run that was ignited by a Chasiddy Hill kill and service ace and was capped off by a Tate kill that tied the set at 10. Another Hill kill would jump-start a run where the Lions would score 10 of the next 12 points and take a 23-19 lead. The Aggies would tie the set at 24 after scoring five of six points. Davault would have back-to-back kills to slam the door shut on the Aggies.

The Lions would run away with the fourth set following an 8-0 run that was initiated by a Davault kill. The run featured three Davault kills, two kills from Driver and a service ace by Tate that gave A&M-Commerce a 17-7 lead en route to a match win.
