Football to Host Co-Defending LSC Champions Tarleton State Saturday

Commerce, Texas – Riding a two-game winning streak and returning to Memorial Stadium for the first time in a month, the Lions will look to knock off the 2013 co-Lone Star Conference Champions in consecutive weeks as Tarleton State lines up against the Lions Saturday night at 7 p.m.  The game is sponsored by Lake Point Medical Center.
 
1st and 10
- A&M-Commerce enters the game at 281-208-12 in 500 Lone Star Conference games.
- The Lions traveled to Portales, N.M. and handed ENMU a 48-32 loss improved to 3-1 and 2-0 in the LSC.
- A&M-Commerce is 2-0 in LSC play for the first time since starting the 1991 LSC schedule 2-0 with wins over Central Oklahoma and Texas A&M-Kingsville.
- The Lions are currently ranked first in blocked punts and team tackles for a loss, second in scoring offense, fourth in passing offense, fifth in blocked kicks and 12th in total offense at the NCAA DII level ... Individually, Davarus Shores, who blocked a punt against ENMU, is ranked sixth in blocked kicks ... Charles Woods is ranked eighth in tackles for a loss and 15th in tackles, while Tyrik Rollison is ranked fifth in passing yards and passing efficiency.
- In the win over ETBU, the Lions shattered NCAA, LSC and school records ... The 986 yards of total offense set a new NCAA record.
-  To go along with the NCAA record for total offense, the Lions set LSC record for points scored with 98, tied the touchdown record with 13, broke the record for the most point after attempts with 13 ... The team scored 57 points in the first half for a new record.
- The Lions snapped the net passing yards record with 590 yards through the air ... The Lions also snapped the school record for yards per play with 12.7 yards per play. 
- Following the ETBU game, the Lions were featured on ESPN's SportsCenter, College GameDay, NBC Sports, Fox Sports1 and numerous local and regional news outlets.
- The Lions experienced the biggest turnaround by a collegiate team in the state of Texas after their 7-5 season.
-  A&M-Commerce is the only team with one or more preseason All-Americans in Vernon Johnson and Charlie Tuaau
 
About the Series Against the Texans
- The two teams meet for 22nd time with Tarleton State holding a slight 10-11 series lead ... A&M-Commerce is an even .500 in home games with 5-5 record in Memorial Stadium.
- The Lions won the last meeting, 22-20, in Stephenville in 2013 ... Hayden Marsh caught a 25-yard pass from Harrison Stewart with 3:06 to play to give A&M-Commerce the come-from-behind win.
- A&M-Commerce's last home win came in 2006, a narrow 14-13 victory ... The one-point margin is the lowest margin of victory for either team in the series.
- The Texans have won 11 of the last 13 meetings in the series including a streak of seven games from 1997 to 2005.
 
About Tarleton State
- The Texans enter the game on a two-game losing streak at 1-2 overall and 1-1 in LSC action.
- Tarleton State has lost its last two games by a combined 10 points falling to Florida Tech 37-31 on September 20 and 27-23 to No. 18 Midwestern State in its last game on September 27 ... Their lone win of the season came on the road at then ranked No. 11 West Texas, 31-27.
- Collin Strahan leads the team with 226 rushing yards on 50 attempts for a 75.3 average ... Zach Henshaw has carried the ball 54 times for 270 yards and 90.0 average per game ... Strahan also leads the team completing 53 of his 79 pass attempts for an average of 205.3 yards per game ... He has also thrown two INTs on the season ... Bubba Tandy is the Texans' leading receiver with 16 catches for 285 total yards for an average of 95.0 yards per game.
 
2014 Athletics Hall of Fame Day
Prior to the game the Lions will honor football's Michael Scott Trigg '88, Eric Turner '92 and Billy Watkins, Jr. '94, men's basketball's Jason Hall '96 , men's golfers Casey DeVoll '99 and women's soccer's Catherine (Cole) Just '98, who will all be inducted into the Hall of Fame prior to Saturday's kickoff, while Gene Casselberry will be inducted as the inaugural member of the school's athletic Hall of Honor.
