Lions Poised To Snap Losing Skid Against The Hilltoppers

COMMERCE, TEXAS- The A&M-Commerce volleyball team looks to squash their five-match losing streak tomorrow when non-conference foe St. Edwards Hilltoppers come to the Field House.

The Lions (3-14) dropped three Lone Star Conference matches last week. A&M-Commerce lost one on the road to a good Angelo State team and a pair of home matches to West Texas A&M and Eastern New Mexico.

A&M-Commerce has been led offensively by senior outside hitter Amy Davault who is currently leading the LSC in kills with 275, and freshman setter Courtney Tate who has tallied 649 assists which ranks first in the conference. Freshman defensive specialist Lacie Jessup is coming off her best match of the year racking up a career high 24 digs against Eastern New Mexico. Ashley Mireles is averaging a team high 4.44 digs per set and has 293 this season.

St. Edward's (10-2) is currently third in the Heartland Conference. The Hilltoppers have lost two of their last three matches in that stretch St. Edward's lone win was over UT-Permian Basin. St. Edward's losses came against the two top teams in the Heartland Conference Lubbock Christian and Arkansas Fort Smith.

Offensively the Hilltoppers are led by junior outside hitter Hannah Rauch who has a team-high 143 kills. Senior setter Kelly Loren leads St. Edward's with an average 6.93 assists per match and has racked up 291. Senior libero Kelly Jimenez and sophomore middle blocker Tabitha Elder lead St. Edward's defensively. Jimenez has a team-high 243 digs and Elder is averaging .85 blocks per set and leads the team with 35 total blocks.

This is the first time in five years that A&M-Commerce and St. Edward's square off. The Hilltoppers won the last match, which took place in 2009 by a score of 3-1. The overall series is deadlocked at six win apiece.

Fist serve is scheduled for 7 p.m. Tickets will be on sale for five dollars at the door, free admission to children 12 and under and any student with a current ID.
