COMMERCE, TEXAS- The A&M-Commerce Volleyball team looks to avenge two earlier losses earlier this season when Tarleton State and Angelo State come to the Field house. The Lions and TexAnns meet on Friday, October 10 and the Rambelles are in town on Saturday, October 11.
The Lions are looking to snap a six-match losing skid, which includes a loss on Tuesday night to St. Edward's losing three sets to none.
This season the Lions have been led by
Amy Davault who currently leads the Lone Star Conference in kills with 290 and is second in kills per set averaging 4.20.
Courtney Tate is second in the conference in assists per game averaging 9.86 and has racked up a league-high 680 assists.
Ashley Mireles has a team-high 311 digs and is averaging 4.51 per set to lead the Lions defensively.
Tarleton State Tarleton State (13-4, 5-3 LSC) has won three matches in a row including an impressive win over LSC rival Angelo State at home. The TexAnns also have home wins over Newman University and Dallas Baptist University.
In the first meeting Tarleton State beat A&M-Commerce 3-0 out hitting the Lion .303 compared to .120 for A&M-Commerce. Davault led the Lions with 8 kills and Chassidy Hill added six kills for the Lions. The TexAnns were led by Hailey Roberts who had 15 kills and Kenya Alexander who contributed 12 kills.
The TexAnns are lead offensively by a pair of freshman, outside hitter Roberts and setter Emily Medlin. Roberts leads the team with 253 kills and is averaging 3.83 per set. Medlin has 433 assists to lead Tarleton State and is averaging 6.77. Defensivley the TexAnns are led by a pair of middle blockers junior Alexander Kenya and senior Jasmyne Brown. Kenya leads the LSC with 100 total blocks an average of 1.45 per game. Brown has added 57 blocks in 63 sets played an average of .90.
Angelo State Angelo State (12-3, 6-2 LSC) has won two of its last three matches including a win over A&M-Commerce at home and Newman University. The Rambelles fell on the road to LSC foe Tarleton State 3-0. Angelo State is currently second in the Lone Star Conference and is currently receiving votes in the national poll.
The Rambelles are led offensively by sophomore Alexa Johnson who currently leads the LSC in assists per match averaging 11.24 and racking up 562 assists. Sophomore outside hitter Mallory Blauser has contributed 210 kills ,an average of 4.04 per set. Senior Wilt Shelby and sophomore Zoey Hanrahan lead Angelo State defensively. Shelby is currently third in LSC averaging 5 digs per set and Hanarahan has 41 total blocks and is averaging .79 a set.
In the last meeting Angelo State knocked off A&M-Commerce 3-0. Davault and
Taryn Driver led the Lions offensively. Davault picked up a team-high 11 kills and Driver added 10. The Rambelles were led by Mallory Blauser who had a match-high 15 kills.
