Lion Volleyball Set to Host A&M-Commerce Classic Friday and Saturday

COMMERCE, TEXAS- The Lions look to get back on track, as they welcome five teams to the A&M-Commerce Classic this weekend. The six-team tournament includes Arkansas Fort Smith, Southern Arkansas, Dallas Baptist, Texas Woman's, No. 17 Colorado school of Mines, and A&M-Commerce.
 
The Lions are looking to rebound after starting the year 1-4. A&M-Commerce started its year at the Britkare Lady Buffs Tournament where they went 1-3 losing to Regis University, Colorado Mesa and New Mexico Highland. The Lions had a convincing three set win over University of Colorado at Colorado Springs. A&M-Commerce dropped their conference opener to Tarleton State Tuesday night in its last match.
 
Southern Arkansas has had a rough start to the 2014 year starting the season on a five-game losing streak (0-5).  The Muleriders went 0-4 in the Rollins College Invitational losing in straight sets to Texas A&M-Kingsville. They also lost to Rollins College, University of North Carolina-Pembroke, and the University of West Georgia. Southern Arkansas started out conference play to rival Ouachita Baptist
 University.
 
Arkansas Fort Smith comes into the A&M-Commerce Classic with a 5-1 record and is currently receiving votes in the AVCA Top 25 Poll. The Lady Lions are currently on a four-game winning streak after picking up wins over Angelo State, Western New Mexico University, Missouri Southern State and Newman University. There only blemish came at the hands of Tarleton State in the Angelo State Tournament.
 
Another team that is looking to break into the national poll and is already receiving votes this week is Texas Woman's they are currently 3-2 with losses to Adams State in the Britkare Lady Buff Classic, and No. 25 Angelo State. The Pioneers have wins over New Mexico Highlands, Regis University, and UC-Colorado Springs.
 
Colorado School of the Mines are currently ranked No. 17 in the nation. They are 3-1 with wins over wins over Dominican (Cal.), Norwest Nazarene and Bentley in the Courtyard and Residence Inn by Marriott Oredigger Volleyball classic. Their only loss was to Augustana (S.D.) 
 
The Patriots enter the A&M-Commerce Classic with a 1-2 record. Dallas Baptist has losses over Newman University and Midwestern State University. The Patriots lone win was over Oklahoma Panhandle State University.
 
The Opening match of the tournament is at 11 a.m. When Arkansas Fort Smith takes on Southern Arkansas.
