A&M-Commerce Volleyball to Try and Buck Losing Streak

COMMERCE, TEXAS- The Lions women's volleyball team is looking to snap a four-game losing streak with a pair of home conference matches this weekend. On Friday, September 19 the Cameron University Aggies come to the Field House. Midwestern State University then comes to town on Saturday, September 20.

A&M-Commerce lost a heartbreaker on Wednesday, September 17 against Ouachita Baptist in 5 sets. The fifth set was a nail-biter that the Tigers were able to pull out 17-15.

Aiding the Lions so far this year is freshman setter Courtney Tate, who has a team-high 360 assists, an average of 9.23 assists per set. Senior outside hitter Amy Davault is also expected to be a key contributor for the Lions. Davault is coming off her third consecutive double-double and leads the team with 150 kills in 39 sets. Sophomore libero Ashley Mireles is averaging 4.41 digs per set and has recorded 172 digs to lead the Lions.

Cameron University
Cameron has a record of 4-3, but is 0-2 in the Lone Star Conference, losing back-to-back home conference matches to Angelo State and Tarleton State. After a rough start to the season, the Aggies got back on track with a 3-2 win over Southeastern Oklahoma State on Tuesday, September 16.

Cameron is led by a couple of upperclassman, junior Kat Evans and senior Rebecca Green. Evans has a team-high 81 kills and is averaging 2.89 kills per set, while Green has a team-high hitting percentage of .272 and 64 kills. Junior Ingrid Boatman is the main setter for the Aggies averaging 6.36 assists per set.

The Aggies have been getting help from young talent. Freshman Cristina Viera leads the Cameron in digs with 114, and has recorded two double-doubles this year.

Against Cameron, the Lions' all-time series is dead-locked at 23-23, with A&M-Commerce winning the last three matches.

MSU
Midwestern State (4-5) has currently lost four consecutive matches, including two LSC matches at home to Tarleton State and Angelo State. The Mustangs are coming off tough 3-2 loss to Southern Nazarene University. Before they get a shot at the Lions, Midwestern will have a tough conference match on Friday, September 19 when they travel to Denton, Texas for a match against Texas Woman's University.
