Lions Look to Rebound at Angelo State

COMMERCE, TEXAS- The A&M-Commerce volleyball team (3-11, 1-4 LSC) has lost back-to-back Lone Star Conference matches, and are looking to end the skid on Tuesday when they travel to San Angelo, Texas for a LSC match against the Angelo State Rambelles (10-2, 5-1 LSC).

The Lions dropped two consecutive conference matches last week. A&M-Commerce fell at home to Texas Woman's 3-0, and lost on road to Texas A&M-Kingsville 3-0.

A&M-Commerce has been led all year by senior outside hitter Amy Davault who has racked up 220 kills which leads the Lone Star Conference. Freshman setter Courtney Tate has contributed with 529 assists which ranks first in the LSC. Sophomore libero Ashley Mireles has a team high 249 digs and is averaging 4.53 digs per set.

Angelo State got off to a very fast start this year winning 10 of their first 11 matches. The Rambelles lost for the first time after having a nine match winning streak on Saturday to West Texas A&M 3-1.

The Rambelles are led by a trio of sophomores, setter Alexa Johnson, outside hitter Mallory Blauser and middle blocker Zoey Hanrahan. Johnson has averaged 11.36 assists per set tops in the LSC, and has tallied 500 assists good for second in the conference. Blauser has a team-high 161 kills and is averaging 3.83 per set. Hanrahan is averaging .76 blocks per set and has racked up 32 blocks for Angelo State. Senior Shelby Wilt leads the team with 223 digs and is averaging 5.07 digs per set which ranks third in the Lone Star Conference.

Angelo State has dominated the series as of late winning eight of the last nine matches. The Lions lone win during that time span happened last year at home when A&M-Commerce beat the Rambelles who were ranked No.10 in the nation at the time 3-1.

The match is scheduled to begin Tuesday, September 30 at 7 p.m. at the Junell Center in San Angelo, Texas.
