Commerce, Texas – The sixth seeded Lions will face off against the No. 3 seeded Texas Woman's Pioneers in the first round of the LSC Volleyball Championships Thursday, November 19 at noon.
This will be the third time this year where these two teams will meet as the Lions look to reverse the recent defeats against Texas Woman's when it matters most. In the last 10 meetings, the Pioneers hold an 8-2 record against the Lions. This year, the LSC Volleyball Championships will be held in Stephenville, Texas. A neutral site for both teams which works in favor for the Lions. When matched up at a neutral location against Texas Woman's, the Lions are 7-5 and hold an overall advantage over the Pioneers with a 41-35 record.
Hillary Shaffer and Makayla Mayfield are two concerns going into the match for the Lions. Shaffer finished the regular season averaging 2.70 kills per set and finished third in the LSC with a .315 hitting percentage. Mayfield had a good season as well averaging 2.65 kills per set and was a significant factor in serving finishing fifth in the LSC with 0.31 aces per set.
Leader
Taryn Driver completed the regular season with 2.76 kills per set for the Lions and both
Veronika Baric and
Summer Alford have heated up from the outside late in the season to present a triple team that will be a tall order for any team to contain in the LSC Volleyball Championship. Defensively, the Lions middles holds down the fort with freshman
Jaslyn Wacker, who finished in the top ten of the LSC with .89 blocks per set, and sophomore
Sydney Reyes who finished the season with 48 total blocks.
