HOW IT HAPPENEDSet 1 (TWU, 14-25)The Lions started the set slow and fell to an early 7-16 deficit.
Jaslyn Wacker gets a kill to make it a 16-8 set that sparks a Lions 3-1 run until Makayla Mayfield stopped the momentum with a kill. The Lions tried to climb back into the set with consecutive kills from
Sydney Reyes and
Summer Alford to cut the lead to six at 13-19. However, four errors by the Lions helped increase the Pioneers lead to 13-24 score. Hillary Shaffer got the set point kill for 25-14 first set victory for the Pioneers.
Set 2 (TWU, 8-25)The Pioneers tallied off three straight points to start the second set that later extended to a 10-2 lead for Texas Woman's. The Lions were never able to catch their footing in this set as the last six points for the Pioneers were earned by errors committed by the Lions (three attack errors and one service error). The Lions were dominated in the second set 8-25.
Set 3 (TWU, 16-25) The Lions showed some fight early in the third set, but was forced to take a timeout as Texas Woman's jumped out to a 8-3 lead. Out of the timeout, Texas Woman's went on a 4-0 run that stretched the lead and really set the tone for the third set. Later in the set down 7-15, the Lions run off a 6-2 run to draw within four. Texas Woman's then responded with their own 4-0 run to lead by seven and forces a Lion timeout. Proceeding after the timeout, Texas Woman's adds two more points to notch a 6-0 run before
Summer Alford finds the floor to get the side out for the Lions as they are now down 13-23 at this point. Hillary Shaffer comes right back with a kill and ultimately a service error by the Lions ended the set and season.
