No. 1 seed Lions, No. 4 seed Rams to Open LSC Playoff Championship Saturday

Commerce, Texas – The No. 12 ranked and No. 1 seeded A&M-Commerce football team will host No. 4 seeded Angelo State Saturday at 3 p.m. in the first round of the Lone Star Conference Playoff Championship in Memorial Stadium.
 
1st and 10
- The 6-0 record in the LSC while claiming the program's 22nd title and first back-to-back championship run since the 1958-59 seasons.  The 22 LSC titles is the second most in conference history.  The Lions a 6-0 record in the Lone Star Conference was the first time since 1990 the Lions have gone undefeated in the LSC play and the 11th time in program history.
- The Lions dropped four spots in the NFCA Coaches Poll down from No. 8 to No. 12 after a 38-24 loss at Sam Houston State. It was the first time since 1990 the Lions had cracked the top 10.
- Harrison Stewart finished with 432 yards surpassing the 2,000-yard mark in 2015. He is the second straight Lion quarterback to throw for over 2,000 yards in season following Tyrik Rollison's 3,764 yards.  All told six, Lion quarterbacks have thrown for over 2,000 yards in a season. Stewart's 2,309 yards in 2015 is the third best mark for single-season passing.  He trails only Buster Faulkner, 2,861 yards in 2004 and Rollison's 3,764 yards in 2014 on the list. Stewart also moved into eighth all-time on the Lions career passing list with 4,152 yards surpassing Cole Cayce, 3,763 yards, from 1993-1996 and Adam Farkes, 3,913 yards, from 2009-2010.
- Lance Evan's 160 receiving yards was a new career-high and the most yards receiving since Vernon Johnson's 191 yards in the Heart of Texas Bowl.
- Darby Smith hauled in his seventh touchdown of the season with his 55-yard catch-and-run in the second quarter. He has caught touchdown passes in seven of the nine games in 2015.
- The Lions continue to dominate the turnover margin. After the 2-1 turnover advantage against the Bearkats, A&M-Commerce continued its streak of not turning the ball over more times than its opponents.  Of the nine games in 2015, the Lions' opponents have turned the ball over more times in seven games. On the season the Lions hold a 28-8 turnover margin.
 
About the Series against the Rams
- The two teams meet for the 47th time Saturday with Angelo State holding a 27-17-2 advantage in the series.
- A&M-Commerce won the first meeting in 2015, 38-35, as the NCAA Division II Game of the Week on ESPN3 and the WatchESPN app.  The Lions jumped out to a 28-14 lead and led by 10 points at the half, 31-21, before the Rams attempted a comeback.
- A&M-Commerce is 10-13 in home games against the Rams
- The last five games have been decided by five points or less. In 2012, ASU won 17-16, in 2013 the ASU again won 25-20. The Lions responded with a 41-40 road win in 2014, but the Rams topped the Lions 35-33 in the LSC Playoff Championship in 2014.
- Linking the two programs is Lion head coach Colby Carthel, who played LB for the Rams from 1996-99. Carthel is credited with three career kick returns and one interception from available records.
 
About Angelo State
- The Rams enter the game 6-3 overall and 3-3 in the LSC after a 57-24 win against Tarleton State to close the regular season. The Rams were one of three times tied at 3-3 in LSC. The tiebreaker was determined by a coin flip, which gave ASU the No. 4 seed.
- Kyle Washington leads the team averaging 66.6 yards per game ... Washington also leads the team averaging 340.1 through the air. He has thrown for 21 touchdowns and scored 11 on the ground.
- Ryan Byrd averages 62.0 yards per game on the ground and has scored four TDs ... Donovan Thompson averages 111.4 receiving yards and as caught seven TDs.
- The Rams are under direction of Will Wagner.
