1st Half
Both teams struggled to start the game. Gabby Scott came off the bench and scored the first field goal for the Lions with just over five minutes left in the first quarter. Scott followed with a three pointer on the next possession sparking the Lions in a strong finish. Scott finished the first quarter with seven points shooting 3-of-3 from the field. After the Lions forced a turnover off of a full court press late in the quarter, Krystal Pickron charged to the basket and got fouled. Pickron ended the quarter at the charity stripe. Pickron went 1-of-2 at the line tying the game at 12. The Lions had six turnovers in the quarter alone.

The Lions were still looking for consistency in the second quarter, but began to find some success after Amari Jones six points and five rebounds. Pickron showed up late again in the quarter scoring two big field goals including a layup to tie the game at 26 with one second remaining in the half. The half finished with four total ties and two lead changes.

The Lions led scoring in the paint 16-10 and won the battle on the defensive boards 15-11. Gabby Scott seven points from the first quarter remained the team high for the Lions after one full half of play. For Rogers State, Emily Gamble and Lindsey Byfield led with nine and eight points respectively, both hitting two three pointers each.

2nd Half
The third quarter was dreadful offensively for the Lions as they shot 0-of-13 from the floor recording all five of their points at the free throw line. The five turnovers for the Lions in this quarter did not help their cause as well. Fortunately, the Lions defense was in tact as the Hillcats shot only 30 percent on 4-of-13 shooting. Despite the poor shooting, the Lions only found themselves down 36-31 entering the fourth quarter.

After a bad third quarter, the Lions came out with a purpose jumping out to an 8-0 run to take the lead 39-36. Rogers State continued to battle despite the Lions rally and retained the lead 44-43 with 2:40 left in the game. Later, with 1:42 left on the clock, Princess Davis knocks down a big three to tie the game at 46. Rogers State drives down the court to score just to be answered by a layup from Gabby Scott while getting fouled completing the three point play to go ahead 49-48. On the Hillcats ensuing possession, Natasha Kindred found herself at the line knocking down both free throws to take the lead 50-49 with 28 seconds left in the game, which ultimately was the final score.

In those final 28 seconds, The Lions put up an unsuccessful shot and gave the Hillcats possession. However, the Lions were blessed with a turnover with five seconds on the clock and running. From that point, Coach Burton began to bellow for a timeout right next to the referee but fails to receive it as time expires.

Burton's Corner
When asked about:
…the Lions third quarter.…
"Our third quarter play had a lot to do with our loss. Everything does when you lose by one point. Every possession matters. We missed some wide open layups in the third including one to start the half. We did a good job of drawing fouls earlier in the quarter to get the bonus but we didn't take advantage of that enough."
…the lack of critical timeouts granted.…
"To end both the third quarter and the game, I called timeouts with three seconds left. Again, in a one-point game, every possession counts. If we were able to score to end the third quarter, that would serve as a momentum starter to begin the fourth quarter. And to end the game, I called timeout three times in the referee's  ear with not one granted. We practice those type of situations things. Down one point with three seconds on the baseline. We could have got a good shot off and in that type of situation, that's all you can ask for."
…a positive take-away from the game.…
"The positive is that we have been in every game. In every single game, we have been in position to win the game. Now we have to find out how to win the close ones."
