December Rivers went 7-for-7 with two doubles and a home run and drove in seven runs to lift the A&M-Commerce softball team to a sweep, 10-5 and 8-0, over Eastern New Mexico Saturday afternoon at the John Cain Family Softball Field.
Rivers clubbed in four runs and scored three times following a 4-for-4 performance with a double in the Lions 10-5 game one win. She followed that up with a 3-for-3 game with a double and a homer, three RBI and two runs in the Lions 8-0 game two win to complete the doubleheader sweep.
With the Lions sitting on a 5-4 lead heading into the bottom of the sixth of game one, but Rivers sparked a five-run inning with a two-run double. The offensive surge and relief work
Selena Rima, who earned the save, in one and two-thirds of an inning of work gave the Lions a 10-5 win.
Aundria Romero earned the win in the circle for the Lions after five and a thirds innings of work. Romero was also busy for the Lions at the dish with three hits in four plate appearances and four RBII, two of which came on a two-run home run in the third inning.
The Lions set the tone early in game-two with a five run first inning highlighted by a
Cyanne Fernandez two-run bomb. After run in the second inning on a RBI double by Rivers, the Lions ended the game on run rule in the bottom of the sixth inning on a Rivers solo shot.
Courtney Moore was stellar in the circle for the Lions earning her second complete game and first complete game shutout of the season. Moore allowed only four hits and record four strikeouts in the win.
Magen Lynch had two hits in four atbats for the Lions
The two teams will finish the four-game Lone Star Conference series with two games beginning at noon Sunday.
