No. 22 Lions Look for Fourth Straight Chennault Cup Win with Road Trip to Kingsville

Commerce, Texas – With the Lone Star Conference Football Festival taking place in Arlington at AT&T Stadium, the two teams that have combined for 48 LSC Championships will do battle in Kingsville at Javelina Stadium as the No. 22 Lions take on the Javelinas Saturday at 7 p.m.
 
1st and 10
- The Lions went head-to-head with No. 10 Delta State in the best game played at Memorial Stadium in the 2000s, unfortunately coming up on the short end of a 51-44 loss to the Statesmen.
- Richard Cooper continues to dazzle after turning in his second 100-yard rushing game of the season and the first back-to-back 100-yard rusher in the 2000s for the Lions.  He accounted for 135 yards on 25 carriers. His 25 attempts marked a new career-best for the junior back.
- Buck Wilson has been the best kick return man in the LSC for the Lions ... He accounted for 181 yards of kick return yards for the fourth best in a single-game in the NCAA in 2015.
- Wide-out Lance Evans tallied three TDs in the loss marking the first time in his career to find pay dirt three times.
- The Lions are the nations 13th best passing offense and 2nd best in the LSC averaging 338 yards per game. They are also second best in the LSC in total offense and 10th in the NCAA averaging 548 yards per game.
- Defensively, Dionte Taylor paced a Lions secondary that broke up 10 passes the game against Delta State. Taylor led all Lions with five break ups -- the first time in the 2000s a Lions has reached that mark.
- As a unit, the Lions lead the league in rushing defense and are 25th in the NCAA allowing just 87 yards per game. They are second in the league and 13th in the NCAA in INTs with four.
- On special teams, the Lions lead the league in kickoff return defense and kickoff return yards. They are second in the NCAA in return defense allowing a measly 6.82 yards, while ranked fourth in the NCAA in return yards averaging 32.42 yards thanks in part to Buck Wilson 181 yards against Delta State. Wilson's mark is the fourth best in the NCAA in a single-game this season.
- The Javelinas (27) and Lions (21) have combined to win 48 Lone Star Conference Championships.
 
About the Series against the Javelinas
- The two teams meet for the 62nd time with Kingsville holding a 36-25-1 lead in the series ... The Lions have won the last three meetings, 21-14, in 2012, 41-28, in 2013 and 55-20 in 2014.
-  Kingsville holds the longest winning streak in the series at seven games from 1992 to 1998.
- The Lions topped the Javelinas 55-20 in AT&T Stadium in 2014 thanks to two huge INTs from Tu'u Liu ... Joe Bergeron ran for 102 yards in the win.
- In 2013, the Lions held the Javelinas to 198 total yards in the win ... The victory was also the first A&M-Commerce road win in the state of Texas since 2006.
- The two teams play for the Chennault Cup, which was implemented in 1991 and recognizes the late Lt. General Claire Chennault.
- Chennault was a Commerce native who was a member of the famous  "Flying Tigers" fighter squadron during the 1930s and was the commander of the 14th Air Force During World War II.
- The original series was between West Alabama and A&M-Commerce, but shifted to Kingsville in 1992.
- The Javelinas hold a 13-5 advantage in Chennault Cup games despite the Lions holding it for the past three seasons.
 
About Texas A&M-Kingsville
- The Javelinas enter the game at 1-1 on the season after suffering an 18-16 loss at FCS Incarnate Word and handing Missouri S&T a 38-20 loss in it's home opener Saturday.
- Shawn Vasquez leads the team averaging 73 yards rushing per game, while Myles Carr averages 172 yards passing per game ... Carr has thrown three TDs on the season ... Autry Anthony leads the team averaging 85 yards per game receiving ... Anthony has caught nine passings for 170 yards and two TDs.
- Daren Wilkinson is in his first seaosn as the head coach.
