Each team continued their share of runs throughout the first half as Texas Woman's led the Lions 35-30. Soon after, the Pioneers shot 2-of-9 from the field and Davis went on her own 4-0 run to take the lead for the Lions at 38-37. In a response, Texas Woman's sprinted down the court for an easy lay in to retain the lead with seconds remaining on the clock in the first half. On the last possession of the half,
Gabby Scott drains a corner three to put the Lions up 41-39 at the half. The Lions shot 46.2 percent from the floor, 41.7 percent from beyond the arc, and 100 percent at the stripe in the first half.
Princess Davis,
Gabby Scott, and
Amari Jones each finished the half with six points and
Artaejah Gay followed the bunch with five points of her own with a game high of seven rebounds. Erin Maxwell was the only player in double figures in scoring with ten points on 5-of-7 shooting. Kenesha Saygo was next in line with seven points.
2nd HalfThe Pioneers did not like how the first half ended so they came out firing after Saygo started off with a trey to take the lead. In the first five minutes, the Lions were outscored 6-3 before Maxwell got another layup to begin a 7-0 run for the Pioneers. The Lions struggled in shooting in the third quarter and shot 1-of-10 from the floor. However, their free throw shooting kept them in the game as the Lions connected on 11-of-14 free throws.
The Pioneers held a slim lead over the Lions to start the fourth and it got slimmer once
Artaejah Gay flipped up a shot over Maxwell, giving the Pioneers a one-point advantage at 63-62. Texas Woman's then went on a 7-0 run to lead 70-62, which made it hard for the Lions to overcome.
Princess Davis scored another four straight points late and the Lions were within two points with 30 seconds left in the game. Unfortunately, a combination of missed free throws by the Lions, and being outrebounded, sent the Lions home with an 81-74 loss.

Burton's Corner "We gave up too many second chance points in the first half. Also, our legs caught up to us in the second half, which could explain some of our bad shooting in the second half. Overall though, the girls played as hard as they could with such a quick turnaround. We just missed shots late. This is a very good team that possesses a lot of toughness and character. We will be better prepared for the next round against Texas Woman's but now our focus is on Midwestern State."
