Pleasant Records Double-Double in 84-69 Loss to No. 4 Midwestern State

Commerce, Texas – A&M-Commerce could not pull off the second upset of the No. 4 team in the country falling to Midwestern State 84-69 despite a career night from Everrett Pleasant, who tallied 23 points and 10 rebounds for his third double-double of the season, Saturday night in The Field House in Lone Star Conference play.
 
Turning Point
- The Mustangs led from the start after opening the contest with a pair of three pointers.  MSU muscled its way out to a an 11-point lead, 28-17, with 8:33 left to play in the first half and never looked back while maintaining a double-digit lead the entire second half.
 
Highlights
- Pleasant's game-high 23 points came on an 8-of-12 shooting performance from the field including a 2-of-3 mark from behind the arc.
 
- Bryant Crowder followed with 13 points after going 5-of-8 from the field in only 19 minutes of action after getting in foul trouble in the second half.
 
- Anthony Adams chipped 10 points, eight rebounds and four assists.
 
- The Lions and Mustangs each shot 44 percent from the floor, but MSU knocked down 57 percent of their 3-point field goals, 12-of-21, compared to a 31 percent clip for A&M-Commerce, 5-of-16.
 
- The Lions won the rebounding battle 42-38, but MSU scored 23 second chance points of off 16 offensive rebounds. The Lions managed just 15 second chance points following 14 offensive boards.
 
- Midwestern State forced the Lions into 17 turnovers that resulted in 18 points for the Mustangs, while the Lions forced only eight turnovers that led to two points.
 
Inside the box score
- With the loss, the Lions have dropped the last two games including their first game at home in the 2015-16 season.  A&M-Commerce falls to 12-4 overall and 2-2 in LSC action.  It also snaps a an 11-game home winning streak for the Lions dating back to February 7, 2015 while Midwestern State won 85-83 in over time.
 
- The Lions fall to 32-53 all-time against the Mustangs.
 
- Pleasant recorded his first 20-point game of his Lion career and his third double of the season and his career.  His eight field goal makes is a new career-high for the senior forward.
 
- After making only three triples on 14 attempts in 2014-15, Pleasant has gone 8-of-17 from deep for 47 percent in 2015-16. He has raised his 3-point field goal percentage from 21.4 percent to 35.5 percent.
 
Summary
1st Half
- Midwestern State bounced out to an 11-point lead, 28-17, with 8:33 left to play in the first half. The Lions hung around before the Mustangs' lead hit the highest of the half, 12 points, 41-29, with 1:38 left before the break.
 
- The Lions ended the half with the final points, a three from Pleasant, to cut the Mustang margin down to nine points, 43-34, at the buzzer.
 
2nd Half
- MSU came out of the half with a 14-2 run to take their largest lead of the game, 21 points, 58-36 six minutes into the final frame.
 
- The Lions cut the lead down to 12 points, 66-54, with 7:27 left, but were unable to get the gap down to single digits as the No. 4 Mustangs cruised to the 84-69 win.
 
What's Next?
- The Lions stay at home in the friendly confines of The Field House when they host West Texas A&M Wednesday at 7:30 p.m.
