HOW IT HAPPENED
The Texanns jumped out to a quick 8-2 lead in the first set behind strong defense and their attackers finding open spots on the floor. Tarleton pushed its lead to as many as nine before the Lions clawed their way back. Jaryn Wacker had multiple kills and the Lion front line blocked multiple attacks to cut the Texann lead to one midway through the set.

The Lions tied the game behind two service aces by Savannah Rutledge. Rutledge continued to serve well as the Lions rattled off eight consecutive points to take the lead. The Texanns regrouped after a timeout to regain the lead and their attacks finally found their way through the Lion wall of defenders to take the first set 25-21.

The teams battled back and forth in the second set. Neither team led by more than two in the first half of the set.

The Texanns began to pull away midway through the set, taking a 19-15 lead. The Lions wouldn't be put away easily, scoring four of the next five points to cut the lead to one in the latter parts of the set.

It was a tightly contested finish as neither side could completely gain control. But the Texanns did just enough to keep the Lions at bay, winning the second set 25-23.

There were eight ties and four lead changes in the second set. Neither team held a lead of more than three. Jaryn Wacker had seven kills in the set for the Lions.

The momentum shifted after the intermission.  The Lions jumped out to the quick lead in the third set behind consecutive blocks by the front line. Njikam and Jaslyn Wacker both had three blocks in the set.

The Lions scored eight of nine points at one point to push their lead into double digits. Njikam was also an assassin, recording four kills in the set. The Lions took advantage of multiple hitting errors by the Texanns and ran away with the third set, winning 25-15.

The fourth set was tight until the end. The Lions fell behind by four early but rallied to take six of the next seven points to take the lead. Jaslyn Wacker had four kills to propel the Lions out of the deficit and into the lead.

The set was tied at 19-all before the Lion front line again awoke and shut down the Tarleton attack. The Lions scored the final four points, with three of those coming from blocks. The Lions took the fourth set 25-20.

The Lions ran away with the fifth and final set. Behind the brick wall their blockers made, they scored six consecutive points, three coming from blocks. The Wacker sisters finished off the set. Both Jaryn Wacker and Jaslyn Wacker had two kills to score four of the final five points for the Lions. The final set ended 15-5.
