Game Recap: Soccer | | Josh Manck

Grasser scores twice in No. 21 Lions' 3-0 win at Eastern New Mexico

PORTALES, N.M. – The No. 21 Texas A&M University-Commerce soccer team rolled to a 3-0 win at Eastern New Mexico on Sunday afternoon.
 
With the win, the Lions move to 12-4-0 overall on the season and remain tied at the top of the Lone Star Conference standings with an 8-2-0 record and 24 points with two matches remaining.
 
A&M-Commerce hosts UT Permian Basin on Friday night, followed by a match against Angelo State on Sunday afternoon.
 
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Savannah Grasser scored two goals in the 69th and 83rd minute, running her season goal total to 11 and her career total to 43. She now ranks fourth in A&M-Commerce history with 105 career points.
- Vicky Back scored the opening goal in the 17th minute for the game-winner.
- Caitlin Duty made six saves for her ninth shutout of the season. This is tied for the third most in a season in A&M-Commerce history
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Lions dominated the early run of play, taking eight of the first nine shots of the game. Back scored from six yards out after a Michelle Kotlik free kick in the 17th minute for her sixth goal of the season.
 
A&M-Commerce pushed forward for the whole half, taking six corner kicks. The Lions took a 1-0 lead into the halftime break.
 
Kotlik assisted her second goal of the game in the 69th minute, whipping in a corner that Grasser headed in to put the Lions up 2-0.
 
Grasser put an exclamation point on the win, pounding home a penalty kick in the 83rd minute.
 
The Lions outshot the Greyhounds 7-4 in the second half and 17-10 in the match.
