Volleyball rallies against Western New Mexico, winning fourth straight

COMMERCE– The Texas A&M University-Commerce volleyball team defeated Western New Mexico in four sets Friday night, giving the Lions their fourth consecutive victory. The set scores were 17-25, 25-18, 25-15 and 25-21.

The win brings the Lions to 16-11 and 11-6 in the Lone Star Conference. The Mustangs fall to 16-11 and 8-8 in conference play.

The Lions return to the court Saturday afternoon as they take on Eastern New Mexico. The match will begin at 2 p.m. at The Field House with a recognition for the senior class in its final home game at The Field House.

"This was a great win for us tonight. WNMU is a really good team, well coached, and they have a long tradition of volleyball excellence," said A&M-Commerce head volleyball coach Craig Case. "So to be able to split with them during the regular season is a great step for our program. With their size and athleticism I am really pleased with our defense tonight and to really slow them down in sets 2, 3, and 4. To slow down such a good team is a great sign for us moving forward."

"Balance was the key to our offense again, tonight.  We've built this team to be a team that can score from all six rotations and when we're doing that we're a tough team to beat.  I thought Layne (Little), Taryn (Driver), and Jaryn (Wacker) did a great job in clutch situations tonight.  While at the same time I was really pleased with what Jaslyn (Wacker) and Sydney (Reyes) were able to do tonight with limited swings."
