SILVER CITY, N.M. – The Texas A&M University-Commerce men's basketball team cruised to a 28-point victory on Saturday, earning a 91-63 Lone Star Conference win over Western New Mexico University.
The Lions move to 9-1 overall and 3-1 in the LSC with the win, while WNMU falls to 1-8 overall and 0-4 in the league.
A&M-Commerce has one more game before the holiday break, playing at East Central University in Ada, Okla., on Thursday, December 15 at 7 p.m.

Isaac Asrat each scored 13 points, with Asrat shooting a perfect 4-of-4 from the floor, including three three-pointers.

De'Andre Carson scored 11 points with five assists, five steals and no turnovers.
- The Lions stole the ball from WNMU 11 times, while only committing seven total turnovers of their own.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Lions started off the game red-hot from the field, making their first five shots to jump out to a 12-2 lead in the first four minutes. Albert opened the scoring with a three-pointer and Seymore scored four consecutive buckets.
The Mustangs charged back to tie the game at 12-all at the 14:12 mark, but A&M-Commerce never allowed the hosts to take the lead. The Lions used a 9-0 run to go up by a 23-14 count on a pair of Seymore free throws at the 9:56 mark.
The Lion lead was at six points when A&M-Commerce went on another surge, scoring 12 consecutive points. Marqueith Russell's layup with 4:36 left in the half put the Lions up by a 37-19 count. Russell would give the Lions their first 20-point lead of the game with a thunderous dunk off a
Daquane Willford assist at the 2:06 mark to make it 43-23.
Asrat nailed a triple just before the halftime buzzer to give the Lions a commanding 49-25 lead at the break. 13 of the Lions' points at the half came off of WNMU turnovers.
Dorian Armstrong blocked the Mustangs' shot on the opening possession of the second half to continue the tone of Lion dominance. The blue and gold never allowed their advantage to dip below 21 points in the second half.
WNMU's shooting improved in the second half, but the Lions made emphatic baskets to stem the home team's momentum. Near the midway point of the half,
Simon Shafack nailed a three to push the lead to 27 points at 72-45.
The Mustangs closed to within 21 points with under four minutes left, but an Asrat three-pointer, free throws from Armstrong and a
Trey Washington jumper pushed the final margin to 28 points.
In the game, the Lions scored 21 points off of turnovers and 18 fast break points, while the hosts did not score on the break.
