Lions Split DH Against Dominican University of California

San Rafael, Calif. – The Penguins snapped the Lions seven game winning steak in game one, 5-2, but A&M-Commerce came fighting back with a 4-3 win in low scoring second game.
 
"It was a good weekend for us. The girls were tired and did good to get three wins in front of great Lion fans joining us in California," said Bruister.
 
Game 1: Dominican, 5, A&M-Commerce, 2
Turning Point
In the fifth inning, the Penguins scored three runs pulling ahead to break a tie at two. The Lions didn't score after the fifth leading to a three run deficit and the first loss for the Lions in seven games.
 
Inside the Box Score
Selena Rima pitched four innings on the mound; she faced 18 batters and allowed four hits.
 
Brittany Woolridge pitched two innings and had two strikeouts out of the 10 batters faced.
 
Haley Colwell went 1-for-3 at the plate and had one run.
 
Summary
1st Inning
Dominican came out strong scoring two runs in the bottom of the inning to take a 2-0 lead.
 
2nd Inning
The Lions fired back scoring two runs knotting up the score bringing Colwell, who reached on a single, and Danielle Guerra, who pinch ran for Johnna Sturm after a walk, through home plate. Both runners scored when Ciera Nunez singled in a run and the other crossing on an error.
 
5th Inning
After three innings the Lions remained scoreless and the Penguins brought three runners home on three hits and one Lion error to earn the 5-2 win.
 
Game 2: A&M-Commerce, 4, Dominican, 3
Turning Point
After the Lions scored an unearned run in the top of the seventh to take a 4-2 lead, Dominican threatened after notching one run, but Brittany Woolridge buckled down after loading the bases and secured the win on a fly out to left.
 
Inside the Box Score
Katie Dean got the win after pitching four and two thirds innings and striking out one bather.
 
Woolridge got earned the save after two and a third innings.
 
Cayla Dobson and Monica Cherry both with 3-for-2 and earned one run each. Together they carried the Lions at the plate.
 
Ciera Nunez had nine assists at third base being a crucial player for the Lions defense.
 
Summary
2nd Inning
The Lions came out of the dugout hitting first and scoring two runs after the previous loss in game one giving themselves an arms length from the Penguins. The Lions runs came on three consecutive hits from Monica Cherry, Nunez and Tyler Oppenheim. Dominican fired back and scored one run in the bottom of the frame to cut the lead down to 2-1.
 
5th Inning
Kylene Hatton walked and came around to score on a Dobson single to right extending the Lion lead to 3-1.
 
7th Inning
Dobson started a two-run rally in the seventh inning when she lead off with a single and scored thanks to a Dominican two-out throwing error. The Penguins scored one run making the game a nail biter when Woolridge loaded the bases three runners but ended the inning and the game with a fly out to left.
 
What's Next
The Lions travel to Cameron on Friday, February 26 and Saturday, February 27 for their first Lone Star Conferences games of the year.
