MELBOURNE, Fla. - The Texas A&M University-Commerce women's soccer team was unable to find the back of the net in a 2-0 season opening loss at Florida Tech on Friday night.
The Lions are now 0-1-0 on the year and will take on No. 15 Tampa at 9 a.m. Central time, with both teams looking for their first win of the season.
A&M-Commerce had two early corner kicks before the host Panthers opened the scoring in the 20th minute on a one-time shot from the top of the penalty area by Taylor Eller. Lion freshmen 
Kasey Sorbers and 
Michelle Kotlik put shots on goal in the next 10 minutes, but were turned away by FIT goalkeeper Karlyn Prisco. The Panthers controlled possession and position for the remainder of the half and took a 1-0 lead into the break.
In the 51st minute, the Lions unleashed a barrage on the FIT goal, narrowly missing on attempts by 
Sophie Haywood, 
Savannah Grasser and Kotlik. A&M-Commerce was threatening again in the 75th minute on a 
Vicky Back corner kick, but the Panthers responded on the counterattack and Kristen Howe put away a shot to make it 2-0.
