Burch's 3-under highlights Lion men's eighth place finish at MSU Invitational

WICHITA FALLS – The Texas A&M University-Commerce men's golf team finished in eighth place at the Midwestern State Invitational on Tuesday to wrap up the third event of the fall campaign.

The Lions shot a 7-over par 291 on the par 71 layout at Wichita Falls Country Club to complete the event at 879 (294-294-291, +27).

"We had a significantly new lineup this week with senior Tyler McDonough and freshman Chance Mulligan making their fall debut. Zach Burch had a very solid round with two bogeys in two holes, which was then followed up with 5-under on his remaining 16 holes," said head coach Lauren Mason. "We will continue to grind and work on strengthening our weaknesses ahead of traveling to Duncan, Okla., for our last event of the fall season. Our team is developing in the right direction and our best competitive rounds are ahead of us."

Zach Burch (Lubbock – Cooper) rebounded with a strong performance in the final day of action to place 15th on the leaderboard. He shot a 3-under par 68 in the third round with six birdies, including a string of three straight birdies, which comprised a run of five birdies in seven holes. He finished the event at 216 (71-77-68, +3).

Freshman Simon Haas (Lorch, Germany) carded three birdies Tuesday on the way to a 2-over par 73 on the day. He completed the event in 32nd place at 220 (77-70-73, +7).

Chance Mulligan (Dallas – Bishop Dunne) and Alex Welch (Clear Springs) tied for 49th on the leaderboard at 223 (+10). Welch had three birdies on the way to a 4-over par 75 Tuesday, while Mulligan carded two birdies on the way to a 7-over par 78. Tyler McDonough (Horseshoe Bay – Llano) placed 79th at 235 (78-82-75) with a pair of birdies in the final round.

The Lions wrap up their fall campaign next Monday and Tuesday, as they will travel to Cameron's Jerry Hrncair Invitational at The Territory Golf Club in Duncan, Okla.
