COMMERCE – Texas A&M University-Commerce women's basketball coach Jason Burton has been named the NCAA Division II Women's Basketball Coach of the Week by Women's HoopDirt.
 
The Lions, who are ranked No. 3 in the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) and the Division II Sports Information Directors Association (D2SIDA) polls, produced three regional non-conference wins this past week. A&M-Commerce downed Texas Woman's and Midwestern State on the road, and Arkansas-Fort Smith at home.
 
Heading into Lone Star Conference next week, the Lions are 11-0, one of eight teams in the country that is still undefeated. During the second 11-0 start for the program in the last three seasons, A&M-Commerce has wins over six South Central Region wins, including Colorado State-Pueblo, who has been nationally-ranked this season.
 
A&M-Commerce is top-10 in the country in free throws made (second), offensive rebounds per game (ninth), rebound margin (fourth), rebounds per game (third), scoring margin (sixth), and scoring offense (ninth).
 
Burton, now in his eighth season at the helm of the Lion Women's Basketball program, is the program's all-time leader in wins and guided the Lions to the NCAA Championship each of the last three seasons as well as LSC Championship runner-up finishes in the last two seasons.
 
Earlier this year, Burton was spotlighted by Dave Campbell's Texas Basketball on the publication's 40 Under 40 list of basketball coaches in Texas.
