Lions host Cameron Thursday for home finale

COMMERCE – The Texas A&M University-Commerce men's basketball team plays its final home game of the 2020-21 season on Thursday, hosting the Aggies of Cameron University.

LIONS HOST AGGIES FOR HOME FINALE
• The Lions play their third of four games in six days, hosting Cameron for the final home game of the 2020-21 season.
 • The Lions struggled from the field in Tuesday's 70-56 road loss at Angelo State.
• The Lions shot 33.3 percent (18-of-54) from the floor, while the Rams shot 43.9 percent (25-of-57) from the field.
• A&M-Commerce's excellent three-point defense continued, as the Lions limited ASU to 4-of-19 (21.1 percent) from beyond the arc.
Augustine Ene was the only Lion in double figures with a career-high 22 points on 6-of-10 shooting with an 8-of-9 success rate at the free throw line.
Carson Tuttle (Mukilteo, Wash.) had nine points and a team-high five rebounds.
•  Angelo State won the rebounding battle 45-29 and scored 40 points in the paint.
 
PERIMETER EXCELLENCE
• The Lions have been fantastic in limiting their opposition from converting on three-point attempts, ranking first in the LSC and second nationally with an opponents' three-point percentage of 28.1.
• A&M-Commerce has allowed the lowest three-point percentage of any team in the nation who has played double digit games.
• This has helped the Lions to rank fourth in the league in scoring defense, as TAMUC allows 73.4 points per game. Since the first game of the season, no team has scored more than 80 points on the Lions.

CHARITY STRIPE PERFECTION
• The Lions were perfect at the free throw line in the UT Tyler game on Jan. 23, going 16-of-16 from the charity stripe to establish a school record for made free throws without a miss.
• The previous record of 14-of-14 was set on February 16, 1970, in a 66-64 loss at Sul Ross State.
• This is the third overall perfect free throw night on record, including a 3-for-3 night vs. Angelo State on February 1, 2020.
• This is one of nine games in Division II this season with a perfect conversion rate and 15 or more attempts.
 
AUG HEATING UP!
• Senior forward Augustine Ene has been the Lions' top offensive threat since the weather break, tying or setting his career scoring high in each game.
• At OC, he had 21 points and nine rebounds, tying his career scoring high, while going 10-of-10 at the charity stripe.
• At Angelo, he set his career scoring high with 22 points, also adding four boards and going 8-of-9 at the stripe.
• His .865 free throw percentage ranks fifth in the conference and his 14.3 points per game rank 15th in the league.
 
ALL-TIME vs. CAMERON
• This is the 59th all-time meeting between the Lions and Aggies, with the Lions holding a 34-24 lead in the all-time series.
• The Lions are 17-10 overall against Cameron in the Field House.
Jaret von Rosenberg is 4-2 all-time against the Aggies.
 
LOOKING AT LION HISTORY
• This is the 22nd time the Lions have played on February 25. The Lions are 13-8 on this date in history.
• A&M-Commerce is 6-1 at home on this date and have not lost in the Field House on this date since 1952.
• The Lions defeated Cameron in the first round of the 1998 LSC Tournament on this date, 87-62, in a game played at Central Oklahoma.
• The first game on this date was 100 years ago today, when the Lions headed to Grayson County and defeated the Sherman YMCA 43-21, establishing a single game scoring record at that point in program history.
