Lions score fourth-most goals in single-match to beat Falcons

COMMERCE – The Texas A&M University-Commerce soccer team scored the fourth-most single-match goals in program history to down the UT Permian Basin Falcons, 8-0, at the Lion Soccer Field on Saturday afternoon. The eight goals are the most for A&M-Commerce in a match since 2015.
 
The historic win for the Lions improves their season record to 3-3-1 and 1-1 in Lone Star Conference matches. The Falcons fall to 1-6 on the season and 0-2 in conference matches.
 
Freshman Karalie Morrison (North Richland – Colleyville Heritage) scored her first-career hat-trick and seventh in program history. Senior Leslie Campuzano (Garland – Lakeview Centennial) had two goals and two assists.
 
UT Permian Basin surrendered a penalty in the ninth minute. Morrison converted the kick to put the first goal on the board for A&M-Commerce.
 
The Lions second goal came less than two minutes later when Melissa Storrey (Tyne and Wear, England) broke away past the Falcons' defense and received a pass from Campuzano to add another goal.  Campuzano tallied another assist in her name at the 16:12 mark on a corner kick by the senior forward that was headed in by McKenna Keeley (Frisco – Memorial).
 
Campuzano added her first goal of the match in the 19th minute. She took the corner kick, received it back and took the shot to make it 4-0.    
Savanna Puccio (Plano) added another goal for the Lions on the board with a goal at the 26:09 mark in the first half.  
The Lions senior forward, Campuzano, scored her second goal of the match to start the second half. She went in for the turnover and shot it in. Her third of the year.
 
Morrison added two more goals in a span of 10 minutes to secure her first career hat-trick. First one was assisted by Kara Blasingame (Oswego, Ill.). Morrison's third goal was assisted by Blasingame and Christina Hernandez (Denison).  
In goal for the Lions, Jen Peters (Allen) made two saves in the first 45 minutes. Lauren Banning (Pflugerville) did not see a shot on goal in the second half. The Falcons had three shots in the match, two players off the bench took two of three shots.
 
The Lions had 27 shots in the match. Five Lions had three or more shots with Morrison leading the way with five. Skylar Jamar (Leander) had three shots off the bench.
 
Kirsten Bush (Belton), Yasmine Taylor (Hutto) and Jamar saw their first action in their freshmen seasons.
