Lion Women's Basketball wins 107-40 in first preseason tuneup

COMMERCE – Playing for the first time in 2022-23, the Texas A&M University-Commerce women's basketball team picked up a 107-40 win over SAGU on Wednesday evening in an exhibition match at the Field House.
 
The Lions are slated to play two exhibition games prior to the start of their inaugural Division I season. After the win over SAGU on Wednesday, A&M-Commerce hosts Arlington Baptist on Friday at 6 p.m. Admission is free for that game. The regular season begins at home on Monday at 6 p.m. against UNT-Dallas.
 
Leading throughout the game, A&M-Commerce's biggest lead was 67 points, which came in the fourth quarter. Dyani Robinson (Langham Creek) shot 9 for 15 from the field for 23 points, while DesiRay Kernal (Newton, Kan.) and Symmone James (McKinney – Boyd) had 10 points each. Laila Lawrence (Lewisville) totaled 12 points.
 
The Lions shot 50.6 percent from the field and knocked down seven three-pointers. For SAGU, Emma Dulaney had 10 points.
 
A&M-Commerce edged out SAGU, 27-10 in the first quarter, 25-9 in the second, 34-13 in the third, and 21-8 in the fourth. Jada Hood (Roseville, Minn.), Nykale Cramer (Oklahoma City, Okla.), Zaria Collins (Plano), Nya Harmon (Dallas – Bowie), and Jasmine Payne (Montgomery, Ala.) played their first games in Lion uniforms.
