AUSTIN – Dyani Robinson scored 23 points on Wednesday night at the Moody Center as the Texas A&M University-Commerce women's basketball team ended non-conference play with a 96-53 loss to the Texas Longhorns.
The Longhorns, who have made it to the Elite Eight round of the last two NCAA Tournaments, are receiving votes in both the Associated Press and USA Today Coaches Polls and move to 9-4 on the season, having won six in a row. The Lions have dropped four in a row to fall to 2-10 on the season.
Robinson (Langham Creek) had 14 points in the first half and is just the seventh player to score over 20 points against Texas this season. Her 23 points are second-most scored by an opposing player in a Texas win this season.
The Lions outscored the Longhorns, 15-12 in the fourth quarter. A&M-Commerce made six of its 17 field goals in the fourth, while Texas shot 4 for 14.
Texas scored the first seven points of the game and led by as much as 18 in the first quarter. Twelve of the 28 points in the first quarter for Longhorns were off turnovers and 18 came in the paint.
The Lions had the 8-4 edge to start the second quarter, but Texas ended the second quarter on a 9-0 run to lead 50-24 at the half, a three-pointer right before the halftime buzzer gave the Longhorns a 26-point lead, which was their largest of the first half.
Dyani Robinson (Langham Creek) led both teams with 14 points in the first half, while
Mia Deck (Frisco – Lone Star) drew five fouls in the first half. After shooting below 25 percent in the first quarter, the Lions shot 43 percent in the second quarter, but missed their last four to end the half.
The Lions were outscored 34-14 in the third quarter, but
DesiRay Kernal (Newton, Kan.) beat the third quarter buzzer with a shot from near half court. She had nine points and team-leading six rebounds in the game.

Zaria Collins (Plano) scored seven points off the bench and Deck scored five, who also had four rebounds.
Olivia Russell (Auburn Hills, Mich.), Collins, and
Jordyn Beaty (Woodville) grabbed three rebounds each.
Asiyha Smith (Conway, Ark.) and Beaty dished out two assists each.
Texas' Rori Harmon, who is the reigning Big XII Freshman of the Year, led the Longhorns with 15 points and posted a double-double with 10 assists.
