LARAMIE, Wyo. – Jerome Brewer, Jr. scored 23 points off the bench on Tuesday night at Arena-Auditorium, but it was not enough for the Texas A&M University-Commerce men's basketball team, who fell 91-76 to the Wyoming Cowboys.
The Lions end their eight-day road trip, going 1-2 and stand at 4-6 on the season. Wyoming is also 4-5 on the season. The Cowboys played in the NCAA Tournament last season.
Wyoming scored the first seven points of the game and led 16-5 with 14:02 left in the first half. A&M-Commerce chipped away at the lead and tied the game at 27-27 with 5:15 left in the half.
Tommie Lewis (Vero Beach, Fla.) knocked down a three-pointer with 4:29 left to give the Lions their first lead of the game at 30-27. The Lions led for almost the rest of the first half, but the Cowboys took a one-point lead with 36 seconds left.
A&M-Commerce went back up on a three-pointer by
JJ Romer Rosario (Hialeah Gardens, Fla.), but a three-pointer at the buzzer gave Wyoming a 43-42 lead at the half and the Cowboys did not trail again in the game.
The Cowboys led by as much as 17 points in the second half. A&M-Commerce was down by just at 50-49, but an 8-0 run gave Wyoming a 12:53 lead.
Brewer, Jr. shot 8 for 12 from the field and three three-pointers for season-best 23 points. Lewis scored 13 off the bench and led the team with seven rebounds as well.
C.J. Roberts (Irving – Richland) scored 13 as well.
The Lion bench scored 54 points in the game.
Alonzo Dodd (St. Paul, Minn.) grabbed six rebounds to go along with team-leading three assists.
Kalen Williams (Augusta, Ga.) scored eight points.
Wyoming received a 30-point performance from Noah Reynolds, who came off the bench. He shot 11 for 15 from the field. Brendan Wenzel had 14 points and 12 rebounds for a double-double. Hunter Maldonado scored nine points and led the way with three assists.
