Lion Soccer falls to Northwestern State

COMMERCE – In a match that was played over two days, the Texas A&M University-Commerce soccer team fell 4-1 to Northwestern State in a match that started on Sunday afternoon and ended on Monday morning at the Lion Soccer Field.
 
The Lady Demons, the 2021 Southland Conference champions, scored two goals in the first 27 minutes of the match on Sunday afternoon before inclement weather wiped away the rest of the match and it resumed on Monday morning.
 
Delaney Wells scored the goal in the 10th minute assisted by Gracie Armstrong and Olivia Draguicevich tallied her seventh goal of the season in the 22nd minute, receiving an assist from Jalen Donaldson. Armstrong tallied seven shots with three going on goal.
 
After recording eight shots on Sunday, the Lady Demons were held to just one in the rest of the first half on Monday. They outshot the Lions, 22-12, with Gillian McKenzie (Mesquite Horn) recording five saves.
 
The lone Lion goal came off the foot of Mya Mitchell (Dallas – Mesquite Horn) in the 52nd minute. Mitchell was able to clear through the defender and sailed it past the defender. Mitchell and Kaitlyn Valaitis (Rowlett – Sachse) had two shots each as well as Nya Mitchell (Dallas – Mesquite Horn), who came off the bench.
 
Both teams had one shot each that went off the post, the Lions' shot came in the first half.
 
Emme' Fernandez scored a goal in the 65th minute and Taylor Spritzer added another goal for Northwestern State with 25 seconds left, also assisted by Donaldson, to push the final score to 4-1.
 
NSU had the 8-5 edge in corners and both teams had three fouls each.
