Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

HCU downs Lion Men's Basketball in Houston

HOUSTON – The Texas A&M University-Commerce men's basketball team fell 68-59 to the Houston Christian Huskies on Thursday night at the Sharp Gym.
 
The Lions fall to 6-12 on the season overall and 2-2 in Southland Conference play, while the Huskies are now 5-12 overall and 2-2 in conference play as well. The two teams meet again in Commerce on January 28.
 
Houston Christian led for almost the entire first half with A&M-Commerce leading just twice, each time it was a one-point lead. The Huskies had a lead as big as 12 in the first half.
 
Tommie Lewis (Vero Beach, Fla.) and JJ Romer Rosario (Hialeah Gardens, Fla.) both scored six points in the first half, both making two three-pointers each. Maks Klanjscek scored nine for the Huskies.
 
The Lions shot 8 for 21 in the first half, while the Huskies shot 10 for 26. Four of A&M-Commerce's eight made field goals were three-pointers.
 
Houston Christian went up by double-digits in the second half on a 9-0 run after the Lions pulled to within four at 32-28. The Huskies' largest lead in the game was of 17 points and they led for the entirety of the game outside of 12 seconds in the first half. Brycen Long led HCU with 21 points.
 
For the Lions, Lewis scored 19, Demarcus Demonia (Fort Washington, Md.) had 11 as did Kalen Williams (Augusta, Ga.). Lewis missed a double-double by just one rebound as he had nine rebounds. Romer Rosario scored eight and Khaliq Abdul-Mateen scored four of the bench.
