COMMERCE – Four school records fell in the 130-53 win for the Texas A&M University-Commerce men's basketball team on Monday morning over Arlington Baptist in the Field House.
The Lions have won two in a row and three of their last four to move to 6-6 on the season. Monday's game was an exhibition contest for Arlington Baptist.
In the game, A&M-Commerce finished with 36 blocks, 18 blocks, and shot 68.9 percent from the field, which are all program records. The 130 points scored are the third most in program history and most since 2015.
The Lions started the game by leading 8-0 and made five of their first nine attempts from the field, while holding Arlington Baptist to shoot 1 for 10 to start the game. The Lions totaled 63 points and 10 blocks in the first half. The 63 points are the most in a first half in program history and 10 blocks were one shy of the program record.
Jerome Brewer Jr. (Camden, N.J.) scored 12 of the first 34 points for the Lions, shooting 4 for 5 from the field and a perfect 4 for 4 at the line. He scored 22 in the first half and was scoreless in the second half, playing just five minutes. He shot 8 for 9 from the field and 6 for 6 from the field.
The largest lead in the game for the Lions was 77 points, which came as part of a 14-0 scoring run at the 4:22 mark of the second half. The Lions shot 51 for 74 from the field, 18 for 32 (56 percent) from the distance, and 10 for 13 at the line.
A&M-Commerce totaled 50 rebounds and scored 64 points in the paint as well as 76 points off the bench. The Patriots shot 28.4 percent from the field and recorded 26 rebounds, which includes 17 offensive rebounds. Isaiah Melvo scored 11 and Ahmad Webster totaled 10.

Tommie Lewis (Vero Beach, Fla.) had 13, while
Zondrick Garrett (Oxford, Ala.) scored 12 off the bench,
Khaliq Abdul-Mateen (Cy-Lakes) totaled 14, and
Kwo Agwa (Calgary, Canada) scored 11.
Every Lion that was active for Monday's game, played at least nine minutes, and everyone scored.
Brewer Jr. led the way with five blocks, while Garrett totaled four, Lewis had three, and both Ugwuakazi and Agwa had two each. James "Pop" Weathers (Baton Rouge, La.) and
Ant Abraham (Mount Vernon, N.Y.) totaled six assists each. Lewis and
Evan Phelps (Duncanville) dished out four assists each.
