Southeastern drains two buzzer beaters to sink A&M-Commerce

COMMERCE – Two buzzer beaters by the Southeastern Louisiana Lions, one at the end of regulation and another at the end of overtime, lifted Southeastern over the Texas A&M University-Commerce men's basketball team by a score of 78-76 in overtime on Saturday afternoon in the Field House.
 
A&M-Commerce has lost four in a row and drops to 7-7 in Southland Conference play. The Lions are in fifth place, 1.5 games out of fourth place and have a one-game lead over Houston Christian, who is in sixth, with four games to play.
 
Southeastern snapped a four-game losing skid and is 9-6 in conference play, sitting in fourth, and now owns the tiebreaker over A&M-Commerce after taking both regular season meetings.
 
SENIOR DAY
A&M-Commerce honored its seniors, Demarcus Demonia (Fort Washington, Md.), Alex Peavy (San Antonio – Smithson Valley), C.J. Roberts (Irving – Richland), JJ Romer Rosario (Hialeah Gardens, Fla.), and Luka Vasic (Pirot, Serbia) prior to the game.
 
A&M-Commerce was held without a field goal for the final two minutes and 55 seconds of regulation and shot 5 for 8 at the line down the stretch. Southeastern trailed by three with three seconds left in regulation and tied it at the buzzer on a corner three pointer by Matt Strange.
 
Romer Rosario hit a layup with 1:48 left in overtime to give the Lions a 74-73 lead and end the drought without a field goal. Southeastern retook the lead on the other end and tied the game at 76 with 49 seconds left. A&M-Commerce missed a jumper on its end and Southeastern got the ball with 20 seconds to go. Boogie Anderson hit a jumper just outside the paint as time expired to give Southeastern the win.
 
There were 22 lead changes in the game and 13 ties. Southeastern led by seven at the 13:48 mark of the first half, A&M-Commerce fought back to lead by four at the 4:03 mark of the first half. Despite the 22 lead changes, Southeastern led for 28 minutes and 41 seconds, while A&M-Commerce led for just nine minutes and 14 seconds.
 
Four of five A&M-Commerce starters scored in double-digits. Jerome Brewer, Jr. (Camden, N.J.) scored 16, while Romer Rosario added 11 and both had five rebounds each. Demonia grabbed team-best seven rebounds and scored 10, Kalen Williams (Augusta, Ga.) also scored 10. Khaliq Abdul-Mateen (Cy-Lakes) scored 12 off the bench.
 
Romer Rosario, Demonia, Alonzo Dodd (St. Paul, Minn.), and Ant Abraham (Mount Vernon, N.Y.) dished out three assists each. A&M-Commerce shot 14 for 24 at the line and shot 50 percent from the field.
 
Anderson led Southeastern with 24 points, while Roger McFarlane recorded a double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds. Southeastern shott 13 for 18 at the line and 53.4 percent from the field.
