LUBBOCK – Texas A&M University-Commerce volleyball team fell to Wyoming and Louisiana in straight sets on Friday at United Supermarkets Arena as part of the Texas Tech Invitational.
A&M-Commerce is now 2-4 on the season.
MATCH ONE: WYOMING 3, A&M-COMMERCE 0
The Lions had a 3-2 lead in the first set, but a 10-1 run gave the Cowgirls the cushion they needed to take the opening set by a score of 25-14.
In the second set, the Lions stayed within reach in the middle of the set, trailing 15-13, however Wyoming took six of the next eight, and won the second set, 25-18.
With the third set tied at four, the Cowgirls went on a 4-0 run, but A&M-Commerce pulled to within one. Wyoming did not allow the Lions to tie the set and took the match by winning the fourth set, 25-13.
Kitana Tuufuli (St. Hedwig – Steele) had the Lion lead in kills with eight, while
Breann Connally (Coolidge – Groesbeck) totaled 11 assists and
Peyton Plant (Littleton, Colo.) had eight assists. Two blocks came from
Yasmin Figueiredo (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) as well as from
Reese Fetty (Farmersville).
Jade Smith (Mayde Creek) recorded 13 digs, while
Millie Allgood had 10.
MATCH TWO: LOUISIANA 3, A&M-COMMERCE 0
The first set started out even with both teams exchanging the lead, until a 7-0 run by the Ragin' Cajuns put them up 15-9. Louisiana also won the final seven points of the set to take it, 25-12.
Louisiana never trailed in the second set. The Lions pulled to within reach, but the Ragin' Cajuns responded each time and clinched the set by winning the final three points for a 25-18 set win.
The Lions won the first two points of the second set and led 4-2, but Louisiana flipped it to 10-4. A&M-Commerce responded by taking the lead on a block by
Peyton Roper (Converse – Judson). The Ragin' Cajuns took the next three to regain the lead and a 5-1 run gave them a 21-17 lead, which they capitalized on to win 25-19.
Fetty recorded 11 kills in the second match, while six came from Tuufuli. Connally had two blocks and nine assists as well, Plant recorded 14 assists with six digs. Smith led the team in digs once again with 13.

The Texas Tech Invitational closes out on Saturday for the Lions against the Red Raiders at 2 p.m.
