Bell, Ramirez deliver quick goals in win at Nicholls

THIBODAUX, La. – Two goals in quick succession gave the Texas A&M University-Commerce soccer team a 2-0 win on the road at Nicholls on Friday night inside the Nicholls Soccer Complex.
 
The Lions improve to 3-1-1 in conference play, sitting in fourth place, with five matches to go, while improving to 4-7-3 on the season. Nicholls falls to 2-8-1 overall and 0-5 in conference play.

Coach Ashley Gordon said, "I am really proud of our team's performance tonight. We changed the game once we were relentless going to goal. Hannah's goal was class. Our team was dominant in the channels tonight which led to a number of chances and corners. Kaydence continues to be a threat by scoring from corners. I was pleased to see execution in front of goal."
 
Despite four shots and six corners in the first half for the Lions, the match was scoreless through the first 45 minutes. The Lions opened scoring in the 49th minute on an unassisted goal by Hannah Bell (Duncanville), her fifth goal of the season.
 
Less than four minutes later, Kaydence Ramirez (Waxahachie) scored her sixth goal of the season, scoring off an assist off Camila Montero (Langham Creek).
 
Bell and Ramirez are now 1-2 atop the Southland goals leaderboard. Bell tallied four shots in the match to lead the team as the Lions outshot the Colonels, 16-5.
 
Veronica Pacione (Birdville) made her first career start in goal and did not see a shot on goal in the full shutout. Megan Cook recorded five saves for the Colonels.
 
A&M-Commerce is now 4-0 against Nicholls since joining the SLC and having outscored the Colonels, 9-1.
 
UP NEXT
The Lions head to Northwestern State on Sunday at 1 p.m. The Lady Demons sit in third place in the Southland.
