COMMERCE – The Texas A&M University-Commerce soccer team fell 5-2 to Lamar on Sunday afternoon in the final home match of the season at the Lion Soccer Field.
Lamar wasted no time to score the first goal of the match, scoring 45 seconds into the match. Cena Carlson scored off an assist from Isela Ramirez, taking advantage of a scramble in the box.
The Lions fall to 6-8-3 on the season and 5-2-1 in Southland Conference play with two matches left in the regular season. Lamar is 5-6-5 overall, 3-2-3 in conference play, and now 4-0-1 against A&M-Commerce over the last three seasons.
The next two goals for the Cardinals came from the penalty spot. Annika Kassenbrock converted at the 7:45 mark in the first half and Carlson added her second goal of the day at the 50:18 mark of the second half.
Olivia Smith scored off an assist from Arely Aleniz at the 62:07 mark of the second half. Alaniz took the corner kick, which was headed in by Smith.
The first goal of the match for the Lions came at the 63:28 mark with
Kaydence Ramirez (Waxahachie) scoring off an assist from
Ashley Campuzano (Dallas – Atlas Prep).
Isela Ramirez made it 4-1 Lamar at the 68:02 mark, scoring off an assist from Arely Alaniz, and
Hannah Bell (Duncanville) converted a penalty for the Lions at the 76:25 mark.
The Lions outshot Lamar, 14-11, with Ramirez recording five shots and four from Campuzano. There were five yellow cards issued in the match.
