MATHEWS, La. – Shooting the second lowest score as a team on Tuesday at LaTour Golf Club, the Texas A&M University-Commerce men's golf team rose up the leaderboard to finish third at the LaTour Intercollegiate.
 
The Lions entered the day in sixth place, but saw three of the four golfers climb the player leaderboard, finishing third as a team with 861 strokes, five back of Southeastern for second place and one back of Houston Christian. South Dakota won the team title, shooting 856 as a team in the three rounds.
 
"We were able to finish strong at La Tour with a great final round and another third place finish. Looking forward to wrapping up the semester at HCU next week with a great chance to bring home a win!" said Director of Golf Brian Dolehide.
 
A&M-Commerce has finished third in each of the last two tournaments, which are the program's only two top five finishes in the Division I era.
 
Two Lions finished in the top six. Janis Erll (Lich, Germany) finished fifth with a total of 212 (71-70-71), while Nicke Kaajavirta (Kajaani, Finland) climbed 17 spots on Tuesday to tie for sixth place with a score of 213 (71-74-68).
 
Cooper Watt (Rockford, Ill.) took 13^th with a score of 214 (71-70-73), Sam Benson (Gilmer – New Diana) tied for 35^th with a score of 222 (76-76-70), rising 14 spots on Tuesday, and Blake Taylor (Mansfield) finished in a three-way tie for 61^st place with a score of 233 (82-76-75).
 
LSU's Nick Arcement was the individual medalist, winning by four strokes with a score of 207. He competed unattached this week.
 
UP NEXT
The Lions close out the fall season next week at the HCU Husky Intercollegiate on Monday-Tuesday in Sugar Land.
